Must spend at least an hour a day interacting with the little Juvenile lizard.......don't want her to grow up to be too feisty.....

awh shes so cute! im jelous!!! i want a blue tree or a green tree. they are all so pritty!

Not quite that big, lol. Savs aren't the biggest monitors. 5ft would be maximum, 3 1/2 is more usual. Females are generally smaller, as usual.
Thanks all :)

Tame him well and you can take him for walks like a dog. I loved my monitor. Sadly my wife did not!

Nile monitors can get around 5 or 6 feet. The are NASTY though. I would not want one of those as a pet.

Was yours a sav too? mine is getting much better now, I think its female but I'm still not certain.........occasional hissing and she's whipped me a few times, and just twice as a little baby I've seen her lunge a little with her mouth, but she's not really tried to bite me yet :D
I think it's going really well but she still panics sometimes.........very nearly 8 months old now. Definitely a long way to go before walkies, lol but she enjoys a good swim most days atm 'cos I'm not working and I have time to play :)
There's an extinct kind of monitor lizard called Megalania (Varanus Priscus) which seems to have got to around 23ft, so the largest terrestrial lizard ever. I reckon that one was probably a nasty one too.......

Mine was a Savannah. He was about 3 feet long and the most docile reptile I have ever seen. He never even nipped when I would have the smell of food on my hands. I used to put a harness on him and take him outside for walks, but it is not like walking a dog. they don't really go were you want them to! His name was Dog!

Lol, I had one before, he was one of my favourites ever and named Weller (after Paul Weller from English rock band The Jam) He broke the skin just once, but it was just a nip, he was mostly very good :). I lived in an attic in Leeds which had a weird walk in airing/heating cupboard. I had the door open most of the time because for some reason he wouldn't ever go down stairs. He always slept under my bed :) I never took him for a walk outside though because if he saw a dog he wanted to disappear fast and there's a lot of dogs round here......
