Say hello to Zeke

Well it’s been two weeks now that Zeke has been with us. He seems to be getting used to his new home. Have a couple of quick questions. First, how much should he be eating? We have been feeding him crickets that are gut loaded with sweet potatoes, apples, and collard greens. We dust them with Calcium without D3 every feeding. It’s just we put 5-7 in a jug feeder we made and most of the time there are 3 or so left. Just thought he’d be eating more, not sure though. I’ve also tried putting some in for free range and it’s about the same outcome. About to try some dubbia roaches, our local pet store has been out. Getting some tomorrow to try out. Question 2: he seems to hang out in the pothos plant we have towards the the bottom of the cage a majority of the time in the mornings when we turn his lights on. Is this normal? He does come out and explore the top of the cage towards the end of the day. Also he is a juvenile supposed to be 3-4 months old, we got him from Flchams.

Chameleon Info:

• Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care? We got him from Flchams. Told he was 3-4 months old. We got him Dec 20.
• Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon? Hes been handled a few times, trying to let him get used to the cage.
• Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders? See first response
• Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule? Zoo med repti calcium without D3 every feeding. Tomorrow he will get his first Zoo med reptivite with D3. Do that twice a month
• Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking? Right now we are misting with a sprayer 4 times a day for 2 minutes at a time. Also has a dripper that we do a couple of times a day. I have seen him drink and we do mist him down some also.
• Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites? Brown and white droppings. Hasn’t been tested for parasites
• History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:

• Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions? 18x18x36 screen cage
• Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule? Mini dome that came with kit. Ordered a t5 terrium hood to replace it. Lights come on at 730 and go off at 730 at night.
• Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps? Basking spot is at 93-95 middle of the cage is 74 and the bottom is 69. Been using the probe that comes with it.
• Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity? Stays around 30-40. After misting it goes to 60 and hovers there for spittle while after each misting.
• Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind? pothos
• Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor? Sits on a shelf about 3 feet off the ground. On a wall away from a vent when you walk into sons room.
• Location - Where are you geographically located? ABILENE TX

well for a juvenile his temps should be 80 - 72 degree basking spot, hes probably over heating and that's why he is at the bottom of his cage. humidity should be around 50 or 60 but other than that everything seems to be great!!!
just make sure those lights aren't resting directly on the cage so he doesn't burn himself accidentally by climbing on the topside.

edit: as for your first question, feed as much a possibleuntil the 5-6 month period then start feeding once in the morning everyday and when he is an adult feed once every other day in the morning
