Saying Goodbye.

Lily began her final nosedive on Friday, and I took her in to be euthanized on Sunday. She went downhill fast - one day she was moving around and begging for treats, the next I could barely rouse her.

I had post mortem x-rays taken (I initially suspected that she retained an egg), but nothing showed up. I then had a brief amateur (no exotics vet on shift) necropsy performed, and discovered that there was something seriously wrong with a number of Lily's organs - particularly her liver and kidneys. They were enlarged, and her liver was riddled with white flecks. Vet suspects multiple organ failure, possibly due to her extended courses of antibiotics a few months back. This would explain her drastic weightloss (particularly over the last month), as well as several other red flags post egg laying. There's absolutely nothing that could have been done, medically. That, at least, gives me peace that I made the right call.

Lily was very special to me, and I'll be taking a prolonged break from the forums and likely chameleons in general. Beyond Kiz, of course, who continues to be as healthy as a horse and is growing like a weed!

Wishing you all well! ❤

Bye for now,

~Amanda.

Amanda,

I am so sorry to read this. :( It can be so painful to deal with and your CF family is here to help you through it if you decide to stick around. If not, I hope you are not gone from here for very long. Either way, you know you are in our prayers.

Rest in Paradise Little Lily...

I was shocked when I read the subject line and was hoping it was an attempt at click-bait. Alas ...

I am so sorry for your loss. It was so awesome to read about Lily and her fantastic enclosure. She has now moved on to a jungle paradise. Your absence will be a temporary loss for these forums but I do hope you take all the time you need to heal. We will be ready to welcome you back with open arms.

love I’m so sad to hear this news . You took such good care of lily . If you had not taken her she most definitely would not have made the past year or so . She was in such loving hands xox . We can’t save them all we can love them to pieces while with us do the best we can for them . Rip baby girl fly high in the Sky ❤.

Sorry for your loss, just lost my first boy Jasper last month and I know the pain. Take the time you need to grieve and if/when you're ready, you'll be a wonderful caretaker for another little dragon again :)

I appreciate all of the well wishes, everyone! ❤Feeling much better about it all, now, though I don't plan on any more chameleons in the next year or so. Granted, I also didn't plan on the crested gecko and c. Gracilis scorpion I find myself with... but I never have been good at having empty enclosures!
