Schefflera care

I have this schefflera plant I got from Home Depot. I had a few questions for you.

How should I go about pruning it? I've read that if you prune it then you force it to grow. I would really like to get more coverage/leaves and want it to grow taller.

Also, one of the stems is not growing straight. Would this be a problem later on?

Thanks!

I haven't really pruned my Scheffleras, but generally, if you want a plant to stay more compact you have to expose it to more intense light. Plants that are starved for light and over-fertilized tend to grow taller (trying to reach more light) and spindly. The lower shaded branches will tend to drop their leaves too. It saves the plant energy.

This morph of schefflera doesn't do very well in highly misted cages. I had one in a very lit cage and it just continuously dropped leaves. I'm not the only one to experience it. For whatever reason it's more sensitive. I have a regular shefflera without the pattern and it's grown big and full

IME they will die back to one stem, but that one stem will grow huge. I have to prune mine pretty routinely. It's been a year of having it too. I one of my favorite Cham plants

I was thinking of not exposing it to too much light until it grows to the desired height and then expose it to more light to keep it compact and more bushy. Do you think that would work or no?

Thanks for letting me know! I might still give it a try if I can grow it more. It was only $7 so why not haha

What kind of schefflera is yours? i'm on my 2nd and it's pretty much dead. I just got a jungle dawn spot, but i'm afraid it's too late.

That's interesting, in my experience I have had ones like this just start to grow huge but change to completely green leaves. Do you know the specific name of this one?
