Screen vs Glass

My chameleon, Archie, is a very adventorous guy. I feel really bad when he tries to climb the glass but fails when he slips off. After many attempts he goes and sits in his basking spot. Do you guys really think it’s that big of deal or am I worrying too much? I get him out everyday for long periods of time to try to seize his sense of adventure.

And he should have a screen cage, unless it’s too cold and dry where you keep him or the species of chameleon’s recommended enclosure is a glass one.

He doesn´t understand the concept of glass. If you have a full top of screen and fron ventilation as with exoterras then you are fine. If the enclosure is the right size then you chameleon should stay on it.

Screen vivs are preferred but you can use glass if it’s set up right. How old is your guy? He is probably just trying to explore his world and find a girlfriend.

I have a mesh cage overtop of a glass aquarium and it works fine. I'd suggest getting some fake plants that have suction cups on them so you can attach it to the glass. That's what I did and she can climb all she wants and I've never had them fall off.

Aquariums are not really the same as terrariums. Check out Chris anderson post about glass terrariums.

I think I understand what you mean by mesh cage being on top of an aquarium. That’s literally the only time it’s time ok to use an aquarium.

The inside has been changed alot since this picture but this is what I'm talking about.

We use glass cages like the exoterra’s for our neonates..
Suction cups are good for attaching vines around the perimeter but 3M makes removable hangers of all sizes that are great for attaching to glass. You just have to be careful some have a spot in the center where the adhesive is exposed that you need to cover with paper. Even screen cages should have enough branches for your Chameleon to make it’s way around without using the screen much. A heavy adult can lose nails climbing screen.

I took everything out of the exo terra....
used that expanding foam on all 3 of the sides. covered it with some dirt, moss and some other things. Chameleon loves it. Can climb whereever they want.

This is what my terrarium looks like now...

Although the plants have grown in more now.
