Setting up my enclosure

I had rescued an adult female flapneck cham from some people who had her in a fishtank with one stick in it, my first ever cham. I tried to get everything set up right for her, but despite my efforts and a trip to the vets she got sick and I couldnt save her.

I fell in love with her, and I am thinking I am going to set up the cage I bought for her and get a new cham. I wanted to do it right this time and do lots of research and make sure I am prepared and have a great enclosure and everything I need before I bring in a new one.

I was researching different types of chams and fell in love with the Furcifer lateralis lateralis.

The enclosure I have is an 18x18x36 inch, which I thought might be too big for a cham that grows to be only 7 or 8 inches, and especially too small for a baby that is 3 or 4 inches. I thought about putting up a divider and getting two of them, but then the enclosure seems too small, maybe not for babies but for the adults.

Any thoughts on whether I can make the cage I have work for a cham of that size? My husband wont let me buy a new cage since we just bought the other one, so any ideas or thoughts are appreciated!

i have my baby panther in an 18x18x36. You could also just sell the cage and get a new one. Or try and trade the bigger one for a smaller one.

a cage that size would be perfect for a female of any panther species or a veiled. Also would last a pretty good time for a male also

This is the same size cage you are using....

The ficus was a bit bigger than the cage and I trimmed it down....

The cham inside of this cage is a 3 month old melleri.

I did a site search on carpet chams and buried somewhere in the 13 pages of posts I read was a thread saying that the size cage I have will work for them.:D I am going to cup feed anyways since I hated not knowing how much my flapneck was eating because the food always ran and hid in the enclosure, and if it seems too big for a baby then I can always split it temporarily until it gets a little bigger.

I'm researching now on their care and everything so I can make sure the cage is set up correctly.

Is there is anybody on the forums with experience keeping carpets that would be willing to help me out some? There seems to be less info on them than there is on the veiled and panthers.

Dooley1 is the resident expert on carpet chameleons (which I would love to have also) and he's raised quite a few generations successfully. He should have all the information you need and from what I've heard is great about helping people. He may even have some carpets available.

His name is Kevin. He is a great resource on carpet chameleons. :)

Ok thanks for pointing me in the right direction! I dont think I am quite ready for the new addition to move in just yet, since the enclosure is going to go through "Extreme Home Makeover- The Cham Edition" first, but I can certainly use his advice and maybe get a cham from him when the time comes!

after the makeover

Finally almost finished with the enclosure changes. I still need to run in the dripper system, and then get the lighting put back on top. But I got all the plants and everything in and the major renovations done. What does everyone think of it? Carpets are supposed to need lots of plants and places to hide. There are 2 small fake plants, and the rest of it is all living plants. I still need to cover all the soil up with large rocks too. I'm not very good with computer stuff, so I dont know how to rotate the pictures to the right way, sorry.
