Setting up the baby bin.. when?

So.. Sela's eggs are 29 weeks into incubation and they look ready to explode any day now. However, I don't see any sweating yet. Anyway.. just wondering when I should start assembling the baby bin? I don't want to jinx anything!

For the veteran breeders.. do you set it up after you see the first baby emerge? Do you set it up when you see several eggs sweating and/or slitting open? When?

And how in the world do you recover from the anticipation?? Haha! This has been a very long 7+ months ..and might not be over YET! :D

Btw.. the eggs are Nosy Be.

Well the logical thing is to have EVERYTHING ready asap so when they pop out and ready to get out the the tub-aware put them into the bin you made fast and easy ;)

Ps I'm getting ready to start breeding next year so wish me luck :)

if it were me id probably be so excited id have everything more or less set up after a knew my incubation set up was going to hold the right temps and that the eggs were fertile. hahaha.

what kind of baby bin set up are you going to do?

@heartben.. I've had all the things necessary for the bin, since the day after she laid the eggs. It took me awhile to stop peeking in the incubator everyday ..and just look once a week or so.

I'm using baby bins like jannb used for her babies.

I set up mine when my first baby poked its head out! You will then have enough time to set everything up before it absorbs its yolk sack and its time for it to come out and explore! Good luck

This is exactly how I did it lol I didnt want to jinx anything either!

Goodluck and post pictures when they hatch.

Well.. the eggs are even bigger than when I first posted this thread, so I'm thinking they might be close. Who knows!

I did notice that one egg is slightly turned in the substrate.. I mean, the tips were east/west and now they are slightly northeast/southwest. I didn't touch them, btw. Maybe the baby is moving around?

Babies are PIPPING!!!!!!

I just did a routine peek into the inc'y box and 7 of 9 eggs are pipping and I saw one baby's eye respond to my little light. Even my non-herpy hubby is excited!!

Sela lives on!! Yey! :D

Thank you both!! I set up the baby bin about a week ago, as I was seeing some strange movement with the eggs. I will get pics eventually, but these are my first Cham eggs so I'm kind of scared I'll disturb their process.

Oh.. and I expected tiny, but they are really TINY!! One little pink head is all the way out and its eye responded to the little light I peeked with. I'm so excited!!!

And not to be outdone, my Telma (Pygmy) is laying eggs in the corner of her viv. It's the first time I've found her doing it. She lives with Louise, so I don't think they are fertile eggs (and I've never found babies in that viv before.. after months having the girls). I'll take them out and put them in the inc'y just in case, since I actually know where they are.

*happy dancin' all over the place*

And again.. so tiny!

Thanks Jann! It is exciting, especially since I haven't had babies in my house for a few years.

How is Camille? I read the threads. I'm so sorry she's having health issues, but you are a great Mommy ..she's in the best hands for a complete recovery! :)

I'm using bamboo skewers, soft rubber coated plant tie thingy (like Laurie has) and some small vines. I'm thinking about putting one of my smaller ficus in the middle of the tub ..it's pretty big.. but I don't want any escapees, so may 86 that idea.

One baby out of its egg this morning..

I love the little crossed mitts ..like it posed for a nanosecond ..haha!

I love your pictures. I have a dog that always sits with her paws crossed, it always looks so prim to me.:) From the looks of it you have them set up and happy. Now just load up on food.
