Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care? veiled, unknown sex, and anywhere from 3-8 months. this is what i was told when bought. and i got it two days ago.. today is the second day. we can determine rough age and gender on pix. please post a pic of the back of the back feet and a full side body pic of him. on the back of the back feet, you will see a tarsal spur, or a pimple looking bump, this means its a boy, no bump, means a girl, if a girl, youll need to know about egg laying.
Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon? i haven't touched or gone near him yet, the closest Ive came was to putting the little bottle in with the crickets in it for him to eat then he goes in and gets them out.. and that doesnt seem to bother him at all.. when i open the door to spray he does sometimes climb up as high as he can go and try to climb on the glass.
Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders? About 2-3 meal worms so far a day at about 2pm, and i just got crickets today he had about 5 or 6. dont feed mealworms daily. they can be hard to digest. crickets are a staple food, and you need to learn to gutload. it what you feed the crickets. sandrachameleon has great blogs on gutloading. and depending on his age, if younger than 6 months, he should eat more than that.
Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule? i need to get a calcium one with out D3, the one they gave me had D3 and a mulit so he got multi dusted and d3 dusted his first two days.. tomorrow im going to get a calcium without for feeding him tomorrow the dusting schedule is, without d3 every feeding, with d3 twice a month, multivitamin twice a month
Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking? Yes he sometimes drinks off the leaves i have a water bottle with a hole in the bottom and i mist 3-4 times a day lightly 4-6 squirts.. humility is at 40-50%
Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites? He hasnt been to a vet, and i havent seen him go bathroom yet. but in his cage it was black with the white tip. thats his poo. the white tip is good, its called a urate, the pee part, white means hes hydrated, yellow or orange means hes dehydrated and needs alot more water.
History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you. He just sheaded his skin.. its only been two days since ive had him and he got it all of in a few hours.. also the first hour or two i had him it was hot for him.. the watt was to high so it was at 100 in basking for about 40 min. its now running a constant 85ish basking and 77ish at the bottom.
that is a good gradient temp. basking spots should not get over about 90 tops, though some can do hotter, and some need cooler.
Cage Info:
Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions? Glass and its about 2 and a half feet high by about a foot wide. can you take a pic of the enclosure please?
Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule? the schedule im using is 10-10 with the uvb, and the blue light that gets hot idk whats what.. im not sure of the name of the bulbs to be honest. we need to know the names, make sure the uvb bulb is correct. and for basking, the bulb should be white, not blue. get a regular house bulb and play with different wattages until you find the one that provides the right temps.
Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps? the first night was with the red light on,, and only went down to 75. and now im shutting the red light and well see tonight.. also the temp has been about 80-90 in basking witch he seems to like he sits at the top 90% of the time, and about 80ish at the bottom.
Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity? i have a humidity reader they have been about 40-50, with a drip from just a water bottle and spraying a few times a day..
Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind? no all fake plants and like fake branch stuff to bend. live plants will help with humidity. you can get pothos and schefflara, the two most popular kinds, and harder to kill.
Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor? hes at about waist level, in my room,, im only in there at night or laying on the bed witch he cant see because of a plastic i put around the side where i lay so he had a little more privacy. its not high traffic at all, and i do sometimes have the fan on if it feel hot in there, and there is a window about 6 feet away its only open when it got really hot so i opened it to cool the room and him.
Location - Where are you geographically located?
las vegas nv. the Desert. haha
Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about. pretty much everything, im very new and i was told that i can feed only meal worms to him instead of crickets, to leave the "red light on at night".. hes eatting very well but other than that idk much.. i know people have their opinions on the temps but what else is there for me to make sure to do.. ive kinda heard my own stuff from anyone and im just not sure what to do i just dont want to hurt the little guy.
that was a pic from yesterday.. he was under some leaves trying to get his skin before when i feed ill take some more picks of Him/her later.
i will get that latter.. thanks.
