Shedding question

Do chams keep their eyes closed more often during a shed? My veiled just started one and his eyes are closed more than usual. it can affect a lot with reptiles right? I see less activity and a worse temper while he sheds. Just want to make sure this is normal, humidity and hydration are up to standard not worried just curious.

Unless the shed skin is stuck on his eyes,I dont see a reason for his eyes being close,I will suggest do more misting with lukewarm water just to help him shed those old skin off.

1. I'm not sure, because I am a first time keeper, but maybe they do because maybe it can get in there eyes.

2. The less activity is maybe because they need the energy to shed.

3. I know about this, the temper is going to rise because they want to don't want to be messed with when they shed.

Welcome to the forums. No, it is not normal for them to close their eyes in the daytime even when they shed. If he's less active and closing his eyes during the daytime he may be sick. I recommend a vet visit with a good reptile vet that's experienced with chameleons.

really. My cham have the same problem . He is almost two weeks this with eyes closed . last week took to the vet and applied an injection and prescribed me a sight .... but I do not see improvements . I am not eating anything. I can give him food when he will drink water ... but I'm afraid .

If your cham has had it's eyes closed for 2 weeks, you need to get to another vet ASAP. I would also suggest starting your own thread, started with the "how to ask for help" form filled out. You will be able to recieve more accurate advice..

Just copy and paste this into your thread giving answers to the required info...

I agree and as I stated before,if there is no shed skin stuck on the cham's eyes,it should be open eyes with no problem at all, increase the humidity plus heavy mist is a start .....or find another chameleon specialist vet for a second opinion!!

This is possibly lethargy. If he is sleep, this may be lethargy. If not, please refer to a vet in your city. I would recommend a good reptile vet (I would at least get a chameleon vet).;)

Chameleons sleeping during the day may be any number of things, but generally it shows some health issues. This sounds like eyes being closed, but not due to sleeping.
