shedding question

Hi i have a 3 month old panther and I think its about to shed. It didnt eat today and it is sitting in one spot with his eyes closed. It looks very white right now but i dont see any skin coming off yet. Does anyone have any pics of what a baby cham looks like prior to shedding? Vince from screameleons said he thinks its prob about to shed or has an upper resp infection but its not breathing funny or anything so im hoping its shedding. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

its nice to be able to get up close and take some nice macro shots. Hes not even reacting when i go in the cage.
 
mine has just started shedding again. i could see parts of it flaking around his feet. i left him in my room, about a half hour later, he looked like a burn victim lol.

hes nearly done now. only seen him try to eat once, but the worm fell outta his mouth.
 
Agree with Brad.........

I agree with Brad's opinion. He/she looks very dehydrated. I think you need to get him/her into a situation where he/she is under some sort of light shower spray. It's harder to set up when they are this small. He may be getting close to a shed but that's not the issue. Have you seen your Panther drink? You need to get it to drink. What does your cage set up look like? Do you have lots of foliage in it? They need foliage to drink the water from. After you give it a thorough misting or shower let us know if it is drinking and if it perks up. If things don't improve real soon it will go down hill very quickly. In my opinion, this is not a wait and see sort of thing. You need to act quickly. Do you have a herp vet in your area?
 
I agree with the dehydration... but if I remember correctly, don't Panthers get very pale, almost white when severely overheated? I seem to remember a thread on this when summer was giving off lots of heat spikes. I second the vet as well, this little guy needs to see a vet ASAP.

Its stance says "I'm sick"....I would take it to the vets ASAP.

Its cloaca/vent looks strange...is it pooping alright? Do you have a substrate in the cage?

What lights are you using on the cage?
 
ok I think i got it taken care of for now. I was on the phone with vince from screameleons and I think im going in the right direction. I didnt have enough foliage in the enclosure and even though i misted him alot he mustnt have been drinking enough. I just ran out and got some more fake plants in there and i have a live ficus getting delivered soon. I then gave him a shower and he was drinking like crazy in there, now he is walking all over the tank drinking from the leaves. Vince told me to shower him for the next 5 days to make sure he is rehydrated, Thanks for all the help and i will keep u updated on his recovery.

Vince was confused by his vent too, but he is pooping fine. Its been like that since i got him i thought it was just that bulge that males have.

I have a basking light and a reptisun 5.0 uvb

substrate is just paper towels.
 
I agree with everyone, he looks Dehydrated. I would mist his cage as much as possible, foliage would help out tremendously. It should be in a small cage, it needs to be able to have food all around him. He looks like he can make it if you act fast to address his drinking and eating needs. Good luck.
 
I agree looks like dehydration. His skin looks very dry and wrinkled. The foliage in the pic looks too thin. They might not be holding water well.
 
good news...i just saw my baby eat a cricket so he must be feeling a little better..he looks much more hydrated and active. Thanks for all the help I will keep u updated

Good deal on getting the water situation corrected. It sounds like the frequent mistings and the new foliage will help with that. I think he is getting ready to shed as well. Within the week. His skin has that dull white cast to it that skin gets a week or so before they shed. The frequent misting will help that process along too. I think the strange look of his hind area is also due to the severe dehydration. The skin and flesh has shruck away from the body structure there.

There is one other thing I would consider doing in this situation. I would recommend going light on the supplements. His kidneys will have been a bit weakened by the dehydration. They need to recover through the intake of water over the next week. When chams are sick the first instinct is to pump them up with food and vitamins. In this situation that could cause permanent damage to the weakened kidneys. Supplements are easy enough to overdose on with a healthy cham. It's even easier with a weakened individual. Keep up the frequent mistings and let him eat as he will for a couple of days. I would not dust at all for a few days. Then start back with supplements but do them lighter than normal for a week. If he looks normal again you can go back to the usual routine.

So he looks a little better then he did yesterday. I showered him again and saw him eat and drink. And that bump by his ass fell of, i guess it had to do with dehydration. He isnt 100% yet cause he has been closing his eyes and its only 5pm. But i think he should pull through in a few days. He still looks very light like he is going to shed when he is sleeping. Hope it happens soon.
