Shipping a chameleon

Hello!

I am serving in the Peace Corps in Rwanda. One day I saw a beautiful Elliot's Chameleon crossing the street, and children were throwing rocks at it(they believe that chameleons are poisonous and a source of dark magic.) I took it home and have had it hanging around in the house for a few months.

I was wondering how to ship a chameleon to America from Rwanda. Does anyone have experience with shipping them internationally?

Thanks!

Doug

shipping

I would go to your nearest postal service and find out what the quickest way there is to ship him. It may be costly, but, hopefully he can be saved. If he can't be shipped, try to find a large forest to release him in. Just my opinion...

After the Broker and F&G fees... It's going to be a minimum of $800. I'd look for a safe release area.

And the long wait and bs you have to deal with getting an African government to issue CITES permits.

It is a beautiful chameleon. Why do they believe they are poisonous? I can understand Dark Magic, that isn't disprovable, but poisonous? After thousands of years of no venomous bites, no fangs, no venom, you would think that they would learn.

It's more like thousands of years of killing them on sight because they look like snakes. There is an African proverb, "One who is bitten by a snake fears a lizard." They even call lady bugs "igisimba" which means "ferocious animal."

To export chameleons out of Uganda you need export quota's.
These are givin only to one recognized farm(ours) so its impossible to get even one animal out of the country legal.
