I'm buying one and even with shipping it comes out cheaper than what I've found from Canadian breeders. The only worry is the shipping of the actual chameleon and the dangers that can arise from it.
It's not just a matter of shipping. There are permits that need to be applied for, and that costs a fair amount of money. It doesn't make sense for one chameleon. The permits take time and money, and it's a lot of hassle. I tried it once with a member of this forum, and it didn't work out. There is no money to be saved cross border shopping for exotic animals.
You will be required to get cites permits to ship this chameleon from the US to Canada. It is not as simple as just paying for shipping. These permits will take you a number of months to complete and have approved.
This combined with the fact there is not as many Canadian breeders is why chameleons cost more in Canada. As someone said above when the Canadian importers bring chameleons to Canada they must bring a large shipment.

If you live in Toronto I would just make a friend that lives across the pond and have it shipped there and drive him back over
The chameleon will have to go through customs and that will take forever...
That's called smuggling. Do it at your own risk, and the risk of the animal. Is it worth it?
i can tell you havin an animal taken because of a clerical error on hatch date sucks...
I know you did everything by the book, and it was still a mess! I started, and gave up. I'm not a breeder, so I was only looking for a few chameleons and it just wasn't worth it. Both the buyer and seller need a lot of time and patience, and knowledge of "the system" to get it done. For most "pet owners" it just doesn't make sense.
