Shooting at nothing?

I was just watching Egon, my adult male panther. He was just being himself and roaming around at the top of his cage. Then, all of a sudden he perked up and with intent shot his tongue... at nothing. There was nothing there, no feeders in the cage at all at the moment and not a spot where water ever drips or collects. He just shot at a random empty spot on the screen. Has anyone seen their chameleon shoot at nothing? I just thought it was weird.

Ok, I figured it was semi-normal behavior. Chameleons are pretty weird little creatures!

...It just occurred to me that he could be living up to his namesake and busting some ghost bugs! :p

LOL! all my guyz have done that too.
All it takes is for them to see (or think they saw) movement.
A refection, or shadow from somewhere can do it.

I agree with the others, I think it's just normal chameleon behaviour:p Archimedes has shot at a passing shadow for like 3 times now
