should i build a cage or buy one

I agree, its better to build your own according to your needs...dimensions ,materials, etc.....

Yeah it really dePends on your wants and needs. I built my first cage but after that one, I decided to buy my next 3 as it was easier and they fit my needs perfectly. They were pretty cheap too.

i have done it both ways it is def, way easier to just buy a cage but the ones that i build are 10x better then the purchesed ones. i find that how much spare time i have on my hands decides weather or not to build. also depending on where you intend to put it you can make it fit better size and look buy building it yourself.

if you build a medium cage, say 18"x18"x36" it will eventually need a larger cage later in life so then I would just buy a cage of that size or larger instead of constanly making changes every few months.

agreed i would build him a nice big 24x24x48 and maybe section it off untill he grows into it. what ru keeping him in now?

If you are savy and smart I say build your own. It will be much nicer and cheaper. But it is a lot of work. If your not that good at building then just spend the $70 for a nice big screen cage

Cage size

I built my first cage an it's about 24x16x36. I feel that ones you build can't be much more attractive and look more like a piece of furniture.

It's a lot easier to buy one, for sure. You just pay, wait for it to be shipped to you, and you put it together.

However, if you have the tools and skill a home made cage can be better and much nicer to look at. For example, the recommended commercial cage size of 2x2x4 is good but it would be a lot better for a chameleon to have an extra foot or two of horizontal space. So if you have the space, it would be nice to build something that's maybe 2x4x4, for example. The downside is that you have to really make sure you waterproof it if you make it out of wood.

It's up to you though.

For me it would depend on whether I am using it outside or in my living room.

Outside- I just buy reptariums. In my living room- I'd build a piece of furniture with a glass front and vent along the bottom and top or better yet, I'd make one with a clever opening that prevented escape without having a door between me and the animal at all...

just buy a diy cage its 95 shipped. its gonna be better then what your building and by the time you drive to the hardware store buy everything and build it, its gonna cost you around 70 bucks ( unless u buy crappy materials ) and you might not have the best built cage. diy is the way to go building doesnt make sense unless you need a custom cage for some reason.
