Firstly I would like to say hello to all, this is my first time posting here on the forums.

I was wondering how many people actually bring there new cham babies in for vet check ups when they are otherwise healthy looking. I just acquired a 2 month old panther on Sunday from Screameleons.I know she should not be handled at all at this time, so should I bring a stool sample to the vets to be checked for parasites? Are parasites common in babies coming from breeders?

Yes, definitely have a fecal. My daughter has bought many chameleons from reputable breeders and the chams have parasites, some even loaded with coccidia.

Thanks

Thank you, I figured as much, its the same with puppies when they come from breeders.

I would agree you should...and I have, but I also think it is important to let your baby settle in to their new home a little first for a few weeks before stressing them with a Dr. visit. Just my .02

You don't have to take the cham in to get it checked for parasites. Just take in a fresh poop and ask them to do a parasite check.

In a perfect world you are correct...in my area I couldn't get a fecal done without a visit to the Vet.:(

Thanks

Yes, Clarkrw3, it is illegal in most states for a vet to dispense medication without ever seeing their patient in person. I guess I will wait another week or so to let her settle in first. Thanks all!

And I would love to take pics! But I'm going to wait a while until I subject her to a photo shoot. She's only about the size of my thumb, thinking of naming her Thumbelina! If "she" is even a girl, too young to tell.......How can one sex these little guys anyways?

Thats what I do and I only can do this because I work for my Vet. I think stool checks are very important.
