Hi. I got my veiled female chameleon in August last year. Recently this week I've been noticing she hasnt been eating a lot and she's having trouble walking. She shakes when she climbs. I don't know what to do. I tried calling a vet but they didn't know either. Can someone please tell me what's possibly wrong? I can post pictures if needed

Sorry to hear that tour cham is not doing well.
Please fill out this form. the more info the better.
And good quality pictures are great if you can take some.

My suggestion for u is ditch those chameleon vet wana be,and start searching for a real chameleon specialist vet so u can bring your female veiled fresh poop (within 1 to 2 hours) along with your chamy friend so the real chameleon specialist vet can do a total exam n test on ur unknown shaking cham.
In the mean time stay calm n give us more details so we can find out what went wrong, then u will know how to prevent it happens again.

  • Your Chameleon- female veiled chameleon, about 7 months
  • Handling - About once a week
  • Feeding - I feed her about 8 large crickets a day. I gut load my crickets with flukers orange cubes. I feed her directly after I get to school.
  • Supplements - I use national geographic calcium supplements once a week
  • Watering - I mist my chameleon twice a day. I use a lot of water
  • Fecal Description - Normal and consistant
  • History - i got her from Petsmart in August

Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - Glass cage with a small screen on the side
  • Lighting - i use a national geographic cage for her. It's a cage that should fit her for life. I use a uv bulb at night and a bright basking lamp during the day
  • Temperature - What temp range have you created= about 90-80 during the day and 70 at night
  • Humidity - Since it's winter the humidity is kinda low. It's usually a 70 in hotter times and a 50 in the winter. I spray her with mist
  • Plants - yes, umbrella plant
  • Placement - We have just moved and haven't gotten all our things in yet. It's at the back corner of my room on a stool.
  • Location- Ohio, USA

Here are some pictures

1)Please dont use the orange garbage cube, try some fresh vegetables collard green n mustard green...
2)what do u mean by"I feed her directly after I get to school." Does ur chamy live in school??
3)does ur national geographic calcium supplements contain any D3?n why u only dust once a week??
4)uvb should be on with the cham waking hour not at night
Please answer them and correct them:)

I meant that I feed her after I get home from school. And yes, it has d3, I read to only give it to them once a week with their crickets. And I have the uvb light on all day. I also tried feeding her greens but she never would eat them.

Since u are a freshman,im going to be nice n easy on u...try feed her early maybe u can drop 7 or 8 crickets for her so when she finished basking or misting, she can eat them right away that mean she can also properly digest her food early rather sit in her stomach at night.
You will also need to lightly dust ur feeder EVERY DAY WITH CALCIUM WITHOUT D3 especially she is at the age producing her eggs,u can use the calcium with D3 twice a month or every 2weeks
And u MUST turn ur uvb light off at night,so ur chamy can get a proper sleep cycle at night,no light in her cage at all like in the dark cave!!!
U can gutloaded the vegetables green to ur feeders so ur cham will still aborb those green nutrition thru ur proper gutloaded techniques,
Im not saying all these will stop her shake symptom, but u will never know that will help her in the long run, unless she just love to shake infront of u for the sake of it....just kidding
Try to take her n see a real chameleon specialist vet n best luck to ur cham.

Its ok to be a freshman or junior(once upon a time I was just like u),as long u come to chameleon college here to learn n listen,no cutting class, soon u shall be graduated in alphakenc honor, best luck to u JUNIOR:)

Can you please post a couple more recent photos. I can only see one of the ones you already posted.

Since most feeder insects have a poor ratio of calcium to phosphorous its important to dust the insects just before feeding them to the chameleon with a phosphorous-free calcium powder at most feedings to help make up for it.

To ensure your chameleon gets some D3 without overdosing it and leaving the chameleon to produce the rest of the D3 from its exposure to the UVB light we recommend that you dust twice a month with a phosphorous - free calcium/D3 powder and allow it to produce the rest of the D3 from its exposure to the UVB light.

D3 from supplements can build up in the system and lead to health issues while D3 from exposure to UVB light won't likely as long as the chameleon can move in and out of the UVB when it wants to. The UVB light should only be on during the day for two reasons...the chameleon needs the lights off to sleep well and if you leave any UVB light on at night the sleeping chamelon will not be aware that it should move out of it when it's had enough.

It's also recommended that you dust twice a month with a vitamin powder that contains a beta carotene (prOformed) source of vitamin A. PrOformed sources of vitamin A cannot build up in the system and lead to overdoses like prEformed sources can so by using one with a prOformed source of vitamin A it leaves it up to you to decide whether the chameleon needs prEformed or not and give it if needed.

Appropriate temperatures allow for proper digestion and thus indirectly play a role in the nutrient absorption.

We still need to deal with the shaking, etc.

Thanks for all your help guys. She literally just had a huge bowel movement bigger than any she has had before. I dont know what that means but I hope it's the beginning to recovery. I'll take her to a reptile vet as soon as I can.

That means what goes in must come out....what did the poop look like?solid??watery??time to think twice before u feed the crickets orange garbage cube...

I am not sure I understand your point. Are you comparing your male with this female?
Which one has premature colors?

Why u sorry for???u should be glad he has color and this just the beginning, wait till he gets older.
Haha i must have worded that wrong. Definitely not comparing sexes. I was simply stating that around 7 months ive always seem a bit more pattern in there colors.
