Signs of dehydration?

Hey guys, I’m back again with another question. What are the common signs of dehydration for veiled chameleons. Since I got him on Tuesday I haven’t seen him drink once. I have the reptirain and it goes off every hour for 60 seconds. Additionally, I spray him for about 2-3 minuets every morning, but I haven’t seen him drink. So I was wondering if there’s any signs I should be looking out for

Do his eyes look sunken in?

The problem with pics of the eyes is chameleons will pull their eyes in if the feel threatened. So the minute you get a camera near them you get a sunken eyed pic. You will need to look at him when he’s relaxed to know. You should also check the white part of his poo for traces of orange. All white is great. Trace of orange is ok but could be better. All orange needs fixing ASAP.
See the page on hydration In the resource section.

So far, whenever he poops it’s all white, I guess he’s doing all right? I spray the cage for about 4 minuets in the morning then have an auto-mister spray every hour for 60 seconds, then I spray for 3-2 minuets about an hour before bed, is that enough?

I asked the same question about a week ago and they said if the urates are white or only have a hint of orange your chameleon is not dehydrated. Orange urates are signs of dehydration according to what I was taught :) Also, you seem to be misting him a lot so I’m pretty sure he’s getting the water he needs. Mine is shy and never drinks in front of me so I was worried about the same thing but I’ve hidden behind the door and peaked in and seen him drinking when he thinks I’m not there (y)

That is a good amount as long as you are hitting your target humidity during the day. You may need to add an ultrasonic humidifier over night if your nights are dry.
