how big can they get?
I bought a pod from coastal..
there are 2 silkies that grow to 3.5 inch :)mad: can't feed those lucky worms to my 4 month old now.. he probably freak out too if i try.. he already scared of the medium silkies)
what am i gonna do to those jumbo silkies?

Ohh also 1 more Q:
People keep sayin that silkies has a lot of calcium in it already that they do not need dusting..
Then how come under the coastal nutrition facts it says:
Silkies calcium .21
and crickets calcium .23

Whaaaaa????
So crix has more calcium? then why those little buggers need dusting meanwhile silkies do not?

Breed the big ones. Eventually they'll cocoon, breed and lay eggs. So they're far from worthless. They really aren't better or worse as far as calcium from what Ive seen. And I always dust my silks AND crickets

i know... i was wondering why people says silkies has a lot of calcium already..
and when i read the facts.. the calcium ration was actually lower than a cricket.
hmmm:confused:

Its not just the calcium level, its the calcium: phosphorus ratio that is important.

I'm not sure where your getting your info from but silkworms have far more calcium than crickets. Here's a link:

http://www.silkworm-supplies.co.uk/nutri00.html

I found another link online that says the same amount.

And like previously stated you can try to breed your silkies. I haven't done this yet myself but am going to try with this batch. Apparently each female silkworm can lay between 500-1000 eggs. It will save me buying more eggs and I can just buy the chow. I've read that you can feed the moths to your herps as well.

GOOD LUCK!

P.S. Here's a good article on raising your own silkworms! - http://www.aurorasilk.com/raisesilk/index.shtml

Let them cocoon and turn into flightless moths. Then feed those moths to your cham(s). They may dig the variety :)

I got the info from the nutrition facts sticker that the coastal silkworm put on their silky pod.

Ok.. I'll do that. My friend jumped when he saw these two gigantic silkies:D
hehehehehe. They caught me off guard too. It seemed like only yesterday that the biggest silky is only 2" long.

Do you actually feed the moth (after the silkies are too big and "cocooned") to you chameleon?

How many people here do that?

Thanks.
