anyone heard of it? supposedly its an organization that works with technical schools and improves students skills through programs and competitions. i was chosen out of the entire business program of my school to attend a competition. i had a week to compile a speech and am now working on memorizing it for the competition monday...im soo nervous! ive fallen wayy behind in my schoolwork working on the speech, i cant enjoy my weekend at my grandparents house because im too busy trying to memorize it. it has added alot more stress and problem than i wanted, im honestly thinking its not worth it, but i cant back out, and i want to do well. any advice?

Do you have to memorize? You could have notes? I think you will do well. You have had practice with a talk about CHAMELEONS before :)

I don't know how big your crowd is but here's a tip...........try to look at and speak to those at the back of the room. Even if they are fidgeting or yawning.......the people at the front will assume everyone is enjoying it :) Just be natural, like you are reading it to your friends.

thanks guys! t-minus 12 hours before i can finally cross off the biggest stress that has been plaguing me this past week. i hope i dont freeze and forget, that is my biggest fear...

Pick an seeming interested person or two in the crowd and talk to them. Use their head nods and facial expressions to judge your performance and make it more personal. Slow down, speech tempo increases under stress and can make you more stressed. Above all, don't over memorize, just be prepared and go with what you know!

Hey, congratulations :), what was your speech about? Any prize money/vouchers or something?

the speech had to be about the skills usa programs (which i never had the opportunity to take part in) and the skills americans need to be successful. i got a medal, certificate, and an entry to the states competition lol..no cool prizes or money :/

Pfff, the more you do, the more that's expected of you........and what do you get for it? Nuttin'..........except maybe a certificate and a medal :)

I've heard of it!

I go to a technical college/high school as well. I am a senior in high school and I go for Computer Information Systems. I was a backup for the web design competition. My friend placed 2nd for web design! I was not needed though but I'm glad. The competition was scheduled on MLK Jr. day at 6:45 am which was a day off for me! Congrats btw. Although my school should have beet you! Lol I kid. Nice job. ;P

The skills to pay the bills? ;)........Mad skills? :)

Bahahahaha!

the skills i focused on the most were non-routine skills, consisting of abstract reasoning, collaboration, systems thinking, and the ability to expirament :)
