Sleep time

I’m a new owner and have been keeping the lights on for 12 hours and off for 12 hours like advised. He falls asleep almost immediately after I turn off the lights but he is always awake when I turn them back on. I just wanted to know if that’s okay or if I should maybe change his sleeping time so the daylight won’t disturb him ?

It is just a switch so I’ve been turning off at 10 and on at 10 but I’m thinking I should move it forward.
