sleeping patterns?

Sleeping during the day is the first sign of sickness or something wrong with your husbandry causing stress. He may also not be getting enough sleep at night, from too much light. Your lights should be on a timer, 12 hours on, 12 hours off. Because of my schedule, my lights come on at 6:30 am and go off at 7pm. Take a look at the care sheet:

Make sure everything is right, and ask any questions you may have. I would follow the care sheet meticulously, and anywhere you are not, post whatever it is so we can help you fix it. If everything is with your husbandry is in working order, it may be a parasite or something else. Fill this out:

And we will be able to help you with your cham. Pictures help.

Well I just got him yesterday and he is just a baby. I think it may be just be stress. How can I get him to not be so stressed?

didney, post a picture of the environment your chameleon has. In addition to having the correct temperature and humidity (both important to reduce stress) the chameleon should also have some places to hide. It isn't strange for the chameleon to be a bit stressed for the first few days that you have him/her, though.

This is his terrarium until his is a little bigger

Stress should not make him sleep. Closing their eyes could be caused by incorrect lighting. You might think he is sleeping, but actually the light is just bothering his eyes. On the other hand, he could be actually sleeping because he is ill. If your lights are right and he is sleeping, then he came to you with health issues seeing that you just got him. Your set up is all wrong and needs to be changed. PLEASE read the link I am attaching on how to set up a proper habitat and what you will need to purchase and do to keep your chameleon healthy. Also, search the enclosure threads on here to get an idea on how to set up a cage the correct way..

I have a really big bird cage that I want to put him I but si far he has been to small be contained by the bars. I was hoping this would only hold him till he was large enough to stay in the bars

I just converted a bird cage into a cham cage. I screened it in so the bars are not an issue while he is small and it will keep humidity in a bit better than open bars.

I posted pics in The general thread. It is under Getting Baby on Tuesday if you want to see it.

That's fantastic!! :) do you know where I can find the screen to do this with??

I just went to lowes and got window screen. You can get it in black, grey, or silver. I chose grey. Then I went to walmart and bought some jewelry wire and a variety pack of sewing needles. I did a kind of spiral sewing up all the sides and on the top to attach the top piece.

The screen kind of sucks to work with, when you cut it, it has sharp edges. I cut it a few inches bigger than needed and the folded the edges twice to pad the sharp edges. Instead of doing 4 pieces for the sides, I did one piece that wraps around the inside and then cut the opening for the door, again leaving enough to fold the edges over.

thank you. ill head to lowes on monday. i just cant wait to see him in his new cage. this will be awesome for him. also i am suprized about how much he loves to out and about with the humans and even the family dog (she is extreamly gentle and will never hurt him intentionaly) he asnt as reserved as most babies. he is alittle cranky because he is shedding for the first time and he hates it soooo much. XD
