sleepy cham

if you have enough room you could use like a shallow cookie sheet or some type of tray. I use a shallow tupperware container. Make sure what ever you use it is not deep enough that your chameleon could not crawl out if he fell in. I also drip into my plant and I have a large plate under that that catches most of the water. There are members who have elaborate drainage systems. Just search the threads for drainage and you can get alot of ideas.

i have it dripping in to my zebra plant now but it overflows a little bit so i threw a big towel under the cage until i could figure something out haha i guess ill put some tupperware in the cage and just empty it every day?

Buckeye, just checking the pic of your cage. Why do you have the dome light on the side. Should be on the top! not a good idea the way you have it. Your chameleon can get burned it seems from the pic. Put on the top and position a basking branch of vine about 7-8 inches or so below it. Yes, the container is fine, like I said just empty it and make sure it is shallow enough. Also, towels are ok. I use there to sop up water too, but don't leave them in there all the time wet. I remove eveveryday if I use them.

there isnt a lot of room on top with my big dripper and lighting hood to put the lamp up there. could i move the lamp back a little? or does it need to be on top?

Also, noticing that your plants dirt is exposed. Get some LARGE rocks big enough so your chameleon cannot swallow them and cover up the dirt. Most people change out dirt for organic so no fertilizer in soil for cham to injest. If you cover up the soil you will be ok. some chameleons eat dirt too, for whatever reason which is thought not to be a good thing for their digestive system.

Could you clamp on top somehow?. It is just kinda unnatural for them to bask like that and I would worry about your chameleon climbing on hot screen(and it will get hot) and getting burned. They will still climb the tops of cage screen but will more apt to climb sides. I would find a way to shine the light down on cage. It will probably bighten it up too. Gosh, aren't ya glad you found this forum? Are we driving ya nuts yet? haha

I went to lowes and got a metal rack for like 20 bucks. I put the shelves on the highest and lowest spots and then put the cage on the shelf. I then put the dripper directly on top of the cage, and under the top shelf, and put his lights on the top of the top shelf. this way, the lights are about 6 inches from the top of his cage. plenty of room!

yall are very helpful :) he would have been long gone if not for yall. thats a good idea, ill look for a rack tomorrow. thanks! :D

I don't use a drip system as the mister coats most all of the leaves and branches each time it goes off. Also, it doesn't spray so much water that it even coats the lexan liner under the cage. I also have shallow saucers under each pant to catch any extra water that flows through them... just make sure you get them as close to the size of the pots so crickets and your cham cant get into them.

Works for me.
