Just set up my chams new cage with all real branches, there's only one problem, he slips on them and I caught him fall and catch himself with his tail. Any suggestions on how to avoid redoing his whole cage I was going to get some flukers vines and just wrap them around the branches but I'm up for suggestions? Possibly sandding the branches? Any advice or suggestions are appreciated! I do not feel like redoing his cage lol

What type of branches are you using? I just can't imagine what would cause him to slip off of normal branches? Are you sure it's not something else? It could be MBD? Not really sure how this would happen.

I'm with @rotadennis ...
I can't imagine wood that's harder and more slipperly than bamboo and my chams have no problems at all climbing that even when it's wet.

Some branches have very smooth and slick bark, take some 120 grit sand paper and lightly sand/rough the them up. Do this outside and wipe clean with a damp rag. That will give your guy a surface to hold on to as he moves.

Lol not mbd, I just examined him yesterday and I'm sure you've heard of chams slipping on bamboo, same thing here.

Thanks for some solid advice. This was my first idea then I've seen threads where people just wrap the branches with fake vines, I want all natural so hopefully sanding them gives them some grip

That was great advice. And btw, you did a great job adding the branches!!!

thank you! Yeah I just looked at him yesterday he's a 5 month male veiled, no signs of mbd, the reptile expo is the 10th so I plan to take him to a rep vet and make sure my diagnosis was right.

How long are his toenails? How sharp are they? And how wide are the branches? Maybe he just can't get a secure hold on them. I also agree with sanding and/or gouging the wood a bit. Anything to give more grip will certainly help!

He's still pretty small guy maybe 6 inches long from head to tail, his nails are sharp and yes the branches are a bit wide for him not all of them but some I figured he would have no problem climbing since his nails are so sharp but he does slip on them, so I'm gonna sand what I can today and see if it helps.

I only built this cage so he could grow up fully in it as he has been growing quit fast since I've got him...it's always somethin though I swear! This new cage I wanted all real live plants no fake and now he slips on the branches lol like I said it's always somethin. I really hope sanding helps I DO NOT WANT TO REDO HIS CAGE :cautious:

I personally use apple tree branches and leave the bark on. I wash them, bake them and use them. The bark wrinkles up and it has amazing grip for the lill guys!
Yeah I wanted to go with birch but the wood is very soft and I'm getting ready to set up my mistking, I figured they would be waterlogged if I did so. When summer arrives I'm going to try a few apple tree branches like u said and see how it works, as for now I'm just gonna sand the branches I have as they are all help up with thumb tacks and it would just be a pain to pretty much re do everything.

Thanks guys for the input, it helps me out greatly, as of now I'm going with the sanding method when I get home, I'll let you know how it goes

Thanks again guys!
