small bump with a protruding spine on lower jaw?

This is something odd, that I have noticed appear, but has not evolved much over time. I've noticed this for maybe a month or so.

My senegal, who is coming up on a year, has a small bump on the right side of his lower jaw. It's not terribly pronounced, but sticking out of that bump a brown 'spine' of sorts. It looks sort of like the stinger on a bee.

I'm just curious if anyone has ever heard of such a thing or has any idea? It doesn't appear that it affects him, but it's something different.

This isn't the best photo, but it's the best I could get at the moment. In the center of the red circle, the light is catching the brown protrusion. I apologize that photobucket seems to be reducing the size and quality as well.

Do think it could possibly be a splinter of some sort?
Does it look like it goes into the skin, or does it look like it is coming out of the skin?

I have not seen anything like that before, but I am glad it is not effecting the cham.

Nightcrawler has very good questions, I also want to know if it appears to be coming out/going into the skin. Any opinion on this?

Honestly, it appears like it is coming out.. If my memory serves, I noticed the slight bump before I ever noticed anything in the center. I just sort of figured it was a small bump there. Then one day, I noticed it now had something at the center.

Interesting, maybe its some sort of parasite or fungal growth? I honestly dont have any expertise to back that up, just seems like it could be. Im going to look around and see if I find somthing that matches...
