Small for adult male?

This male is 1.5 years old, apparently he is 5-6" without tail, is this a bit on the small side for a male? Any thoughts about him health wise from the picture? I am going to be getting this guy in a few days, he is in a smaller aquarium at his current home which is why I'm asking if he looks stunted. He will be my very first chameleon. :)

Hello Moreau,
Glad you found us on the forums.
I know Julia was helping you with this chameleon on Kijiji, right? I am from the same area and am well acquainted with her. 5-6" body length is fairly small for an adult veiled. He doesn't show any signs of MBD in his limbs so that is really good news. His veil is a little wonky but it's the limbs you want to worry about. Obviously the previous owner had no clue how to care for a chameleon but since you found us I am sure you will quickly learn what it takes.

Thanks for having a look, yes Julia has been very helpful so far. That forum is a bit on the slow side so I thought I would post here too. :)
If he is smaller, would a 36" tall enclosure be okay? Or is the 48" one still the best way to go? He is currently in an 18" high tank.

Glad you are part of chameleon forums now! (Julia here!) You probably want to go with the bigger cage. 36" is not tall enough for a male.... hopefully some other people will chime in and offer advice! Sorry I have been kinda slow answering your questions!

I've heard some people say that 36"x18"x18" are the minimum size enclosure for a male veiled, just like the minimum size enclosure for a bearded dragon is a 40g breeder tank. I have also heard that a lot of breeders keep their chameleons in 36" high enclosures. However 48" gives that extra foot for your chameleon and will offer a greater temperature variation from top to bottom. If you can afford the bigger, go for it!

And NeonChams I was born in Van too, I live in Richmond now. I put Vancouver as my home place on the site so people actually know where it is. I can't imagine many people know where Richmond is =P
Cheers to being a vancouverite!

Thank you I will go with the 2 x 2 x 4. He will have to live in his current tank for a little while though, as I will have to order the cage online. I am picking him up tonight and I am very excited! Oh, and I'm in Pitt Meadows, not too far from Van. :)
