So there aren't wildfires ever in Madagascar? /
In a (predominantly)
rainforest?
I suppose it could depend on your definitions of "natural" and "wildfire".
No question there are
forest fires in Madagascar, but the vast majority—if not all—seem to be intentionally set by humans. Is that "natural"?
Of the fires that do occur
other than those initiated by humans, most appear to be due to—or exacerbated by—
climate change. Is that "natural"? I think some would argue that humans still had a hand—if indirectly.
Just pointing out some facts. Wildfires are natural in
many places/parts of the world, but I'm dubious about how natural they are (or were—historically) in Madagascar.
While we can't really canvass or interview them, I'm also dubious that
any sentient creatures
don't mind the effects of fire on their habitats—even those that have evolved coping mechanisms (e.g. digging in, fleeing).
But I could be mistaken or misinformed. If anyone has any data that wildfires
are a periodic or regular natural occurrence in Madagascar, I'm willing to keep an open mind. ?
