Current Problem - my chameleon continusly sneezes . usally when i get close to her. i know this could be a self defence thing but she always does it and im not sure they do it all the time . she was recently lost for a couple of days and i was worried that her poor conditions without my care caused a respirtory issue . what could this sneezing be about ? thanks !!!!

Does she show any other signs of respitory disease? Any popping when opening her mouth? Breathing through her mouth a lot? Resting with her head pointed up for no reason? Excessive mucus that isn't a normal texture or color?

Edit: her basking temps may be a touch too cool? Bump it up 2-3 degrees. It might help a lot with fighting off any possible illness in the long run. Females do need lower temps but I usually never go below 84-85 for them.

My cham, Nik, shows no signs RI but makes a little cough sound whenever I start to bother him. There was a thread about this a few days ago, we came to the conclusion that chameleons have different ways of showing you that they need space. Nik makes a cough sound, like he's saying, "Um..... Hate to break it to ya, but BACK OFF."

Also, something just occurred to me. After eating, Nik points his head up and stays there for a while before exploring again. I assumed he was just basking a little, but @Andee's post now worries me. Is that normal?

No nothings like that at all no breathing thru the mouth or mucas .

If he's in a basking zone or has eaten a rather large amount its not something to worry about. Sometimes pointing up helps swallow if it's a large meal. My boy Ryker does huffing sounds if he doesn't approve of something.
