So I have a question for the future.

So I didn't really know where this should go, so I posted it in just general discussion. The power is very unreliable where I live and even more unreliable during the winter. It gets cold when the power goes off and I was wondering what I should do with Tini if the power were to go out for a long period of time and it got to cold. Would she be okay.? Sometimes our power has been off for two or three days at a time. I just don't want this to happen and have no idea what to do to keep her okay.

keep her near your fireplace, or place of warmth, surely you folks have something for the winters.

yea, keep ambient temps at least above 65 for her. should be fine if thats achievable, however i have limited winter experience.. i live in arizona haha

A handwarmer.? So like hold her with handwarmers on my hands.?
She doesn't like the I get her out...
Like she's fine after she's out, just getting her out is the trick. lol.

Well when your power goes out, and I assume it snows where you live, what do you do to keep warm? Do you have a wood stove or something? I can't imagine a house in the midwest with no fireplace!! How do you do it!? Those heat packs work well, you start them up and they keep some heat well enough for small animals. Breeders use them for shipping reptiles and feeders to help keep them comfy on their box journey.

I have the same problem for my fish when the power goes out. I had to buy battery operated air pumps. Can you buy battery operated heaters? I live in the bay area of cali so I don't experience the cold like you do, I am sure there must be something like that for sale. Best of luck.

We use blankets. lol. No wood stove or heater. The heat pack would work if I can get her out. :) I could defiantly look for a battery operated heater, I'm sure I could find one.

Damn. When it gets to 50 F here I cry and complain like I am going to die from freezing to death. I would def get a battery operated one, my power goes out a lot here because our power lines are underground and get messed up a lot so I had to do something for my fish.

How cold does it get in your house?

You could put the heat packs on the bottom and wrap the enclosure to keep the heat in.

There are larger versions of that available which might be very helpful, particularly for overnight.

They recharge by being put in boiling water. As long as you have a barbeque, you can boil water so it should be do-able.

I don't put the heat packs on the bottom...learned a long time ago that the chameleon might stand on it and burn its feet. I put the chameleon in a petpal and attach the heat pack to the side of the petpal and then wrap the whole thing in a towel making sure to leave a place open to allow for some air circulation. You don't want to bake or suffocate the chameleon!

No. Like a heater that goes through all our vents. It stops.working when the power goes out though.

Can you heat water in any way on a stove (natural gas for example)? If so, you could fill hot water bottles of your own and put them around the cage and wrap it with a blanket. Or, get to know a close neighbor who has a wood stove and ask if you can take your cham there in an emergency.
