So wife not happy about dubia "beetles"

I kept telling her I was getting dubia beetles for Franklin. Well they finally came in the mail today. I put them in the tub I prepared and she had to take a look. She quickly noticed one of the adults and screamed "AAAAAAAAAH! THAT THING LOOKS LIKE A ROACH!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!" So I don't think she's buying the beetle bs. The only thing she said after that was, "If one of those things get out, they are ALL gone!" hahaha. Fair enough. I was hoping she wasn't gonna look too closely. But at least I have a not so smelly, not so loud alternative to those God awful crickets. Hooray for me! Let's just hope she never finds one wondering around the house!

I was in your same situation except with my husband... and he DID find one in our house... specifically in our bed, at 2am... They all had to be gone by the next day. He is gracious enough to give me another shot though and he even helped me make what we hope is an escape-proof container for them. I know if he finds another one I'll have to get rid of them again.

Well I was under the impression that they couldn't climb plastic at all (which turns out the type of plastic I was using, they could climb). I kept them in this with air holes:

Now I have them in a large Sterilite bin and my husband cut out sections in the lid and the sides for screen. No escapees yet and it's been almost a week.

God bless your hubby. It toook me 3-4 months to finally bring them home. I am single if I find any escapees I will give them to Ben's breeder and never go back.... lol


I do like the idea of Dubia beetles sounds a little cleaner

lol i had to tell the same thing to my wife. i put a smaller rubberlite bin inside a larger one and put a lock and key on it so my children couldnt "set them free"

ps, if you have cats or dogs they will clean up all escapes.

The small dubias remind me of pill bugs. Which I have no problems with.... Once they getting bigger is when I have problems.... lol

i just got my colony about a week ago and my mom still has no idea they are in the house...i hope i never have to face the day where she gets brave enough to enter my room and snoop in my tubs XD

I've done the same thing, got roughly 1500-2000 Dubia in a single bin in my closet. Not a single person in the house knows about them. God forbid they escape.

he seems to like them. He's eaten all of the ones I have offered him!
I'm glad too b/c my wife was already pissed and would've been even more mad if she found out he didn't like them!

I ended up having to do the same but replace roaches with I got a new cham and cupcake with wine
