This must have been so much work...thanks to those of you who did it all! I'm still trying to figure a few things out but I'm glad the updates will allow this great forum to continue!

I know this is probobly a lot of work you put in and I don't want to minimize that, but I'm old fashioned, and was wondering if there's a way to use old format, or something similar? On some sites there's a cellphone or desktop option, but don't see it here. If not I guess I'll have to get used to it. This is a great site either way!

No, sorry. When you see the desktop vs cell option it's because the website is optimized for one or the other so there's an alternate version to try to make it more user friendly. This is the new software for the forums universally and it is responsive meaning it adapts to different formats without needing an alternate version.

WOW! What a great new look! I hadn't been on in a while and I thought I was at the wrong place LOL
Seriously guys great work and thanks for all you do to keep such a great community going and active.

Hello. What a big beautiful change! congrats on achieving this move into the future. I've been offline a while but I anticipate coming back soon and look forward to learning the new site.

I'm still cleaning up a bit from the upgrade last fall. I discovered recently that old blog attachments were not carried over to the new software. That was fixed this afternoon.

I'm not sure if I ever addressed the current state of blogs at Chameleon Forums. The new forum software does not include a blog component so we had to find a compatible 3rd party solution. At the time our options were very limited but we felt it was important to preserve the blog data. After a lot of testing we settled on the current solution, but did not feel it was good enough to keep open for new blog entries. The plan is to move the blogs into a better 3rd party solution this fall.

We have been working hard behind the scenes on a major software upgrade for Chameleon Forums and I'm excited to finally share it with everyone. The changes will allow us to keep up with the times and ensure that the community is around for many years to come. This is long overdue and represents the largest upgrade to Chameleon Forums in over 10 years. Throughout the next several weeks and months we will introduce many new features to the community so keep an eye on the announcement section.

Why the change? To be honest we really had no choice. The old software is no longer supported and it simply has no future. If Chameleon Forums wants to survive as a community then a big change was needed. The new software has a lot of great modern features and was designed to integrate with social media and other web services. It also uses a responsive design that can be viewed comfortably using phones and tablets without the need of third party applications. When we first started using the old software the iPhone had yet to be invented and most people had never even heard of Facebook.

Along with the new software we also have a brand new, fresh design that we hope everyone enjoys. We realize it is a big change but rest assured the site is still run by the same people and we will continue to keep Chameleon Forums the friendly place that it has always been. We are committed to working with the community as long as it takes to improve the site wherever needed. In some areas this change may actually be a temporary step backwards, but it was necessary so that long term we can move in a positive direction and eventually take many more steps forward. I humbly request that you give the changes a chance and offer constructive feedback on the elements you believe need improvement.

The design and upgrade in general took a tremendous amount of time to complete. A great deal of planning and organization was needed to preserve the old data and develop an attractive new design. I want to sincerely thank Trace for putting in countless hours helping me with all the work; I'm not sure this would have been possible without her contributions.

Please go explore and let us know what you think :coffee:

I’ve noticed that software design changes often stem from the need to improve scalability and maintainability, especially as projects grow more complex. Node.js has become a popular choice for many companies because of its event-driven architecture and efficiency in handling asynchronous operations. If you’re considering a shift or looking into reliable development partners, this article breaks down what to expect from Node.js development companies and how they approach evolving software needs. More info here. It’s a solid resource to understand the practical benefits and common challenges involved in redesigning software with Node.js in mind.
Great
