Soil and live plants... new risks?

So here’s my overthinking head again going round in circles. This weekend I worked on my chameleon’s enclosure and changed his setup (which was all fake plants and bare bottom) to live plants with organic soil.

I’ve owned fish tanks for a while and every time I added live plants, things would start to get complicated.

In this case, I’m assuming organic soil and live plants are a good place for microorganisms to grow in. I may be wrong... but is there anything I should keep an eye on?

Nah not really. Assuming you didn't throw a bunch of plants covered in fire ants in your enclosure, you should be fine (y).

Worst thing that happens is you waste money on plants if they die for whatever reason. My biggest annoyance is aphids.

They don't live on plastic grounds covered with paper towels in nature either so I'm pretty sure it should be ok.

Just keep in mind they can't spit so you may want to avoid soil with bigger pieces in it that they could accidentally ingest.

I put some medium rocks over the substrate to keep my guy from being able to eat the dirt... :) looks nice too

As long as the soil is fine grain and not full of a bunch of sticks and large bits of matter and the plants are non toxic you should be good.

I was very glad I took the advice from people here...Harry had a nice little snack on his plant ...glad it was a safe one :)
