Some Help And Advise please ?

I today have just got my first chameleon he's a 1 year old veiled, I've had some reptile experience bearded dragons and a corn snake, but what worries me is he seems to be sleeping in the day with no interest in eating is this something I should be concerned about ? If some one can help shed some light on this would be greatly appreciated

Jimmy

Yes, you definitely should be concerned. He is either sick or dehydrated or both. His eyes are very sunken in, which is never good. Where did you get him?

Oh damn ! Well I got him from my local pet store, I can see he is dehydrated so I've been on top of his hydration today misted him and his cage, when I put him in his cage for the first time I put the dripper on and he went crazy for it, started drinking from the bowl... But just now he woke up opened his mouth wide and started wiggling about :S

You can either take him back to the store, or take him to a vet experienced with chameleons. You can try to get him hydrated with more frequent misting and keeping the dripper going, but if he has another underlying condition he'll need medical attention.
I think Petsmart has some sort of guarantee on their animals health within the 1st week, where they will provide vet care, if that's where you bought him. In the future, you'll be much better off buying one from someone who breeds them. You usually end up with a much healthier animal.

I'm not sure what's wrong or what to do :/
I agree with @MelissaB . He has serious issues. It might be a lot more than just being dehydrated. Even one bout of serious dehydration can cause kidney damage that might not hurt him immediately, but often catches up with them down the road. I'm sorry I couldn't give you a simple fix and hope.

IMHO, I would return him to the store. Even though it might not help the chameleon itself, any vendor selling such an animal should be told in no uncertain terms that its condition is unacceptable, inexcusable, cruel, and disgusting.

Agreed. Honestly, it is unlikely you can help him.

I agree with the above posters. Take that cham back to the pet shop, he should not have been sold to anybody in that state.

Also is that something coming out of his butt? On my phone it looks like a prolapse but I'm not sure he's old enough to get sperm plugs or if my phones just got bad quality

Is there an update on this little guy? I saw your post yesterday and thought I would check back to see if you took him to the vet and what they said.

Unfortunley that night he died :'( I did all I could to help him he had major URI and could not be saved I took his body bad to the shop and lost my temper, I felt like it was my fault ! But it was how they sold him to me

I am very sorry for your loss. If you do decide to get another chameleon, I'd definitely recommend finding a reputable breeder. It makes the world of a difference when you buy an animal that's had the proper husbandry!
