Something hanging from my chameleon's butt.

thanks for the help but if it isn 't a sperm plug and i pull on it won't it be detrimental to the chameleon?

Only pull very, very soflty. After soaking for that much time it should slide out with the gentlest of tugs or maybe a slight side to side motion. Also, in case you didn't see it I just linked to an article in my last post that might be worth checking out.

Hard to be sure from pictures.
It can never hurt to take him to a qualified vet. This may be your best bet now. If its "just" a sperm plug, the vet can help. If it is an impaction, the vet can help (and perhaps review your husbandry). If (lets hope not) its a prolapse, the vet is truly needed.

How long should i soak him, i did it for about five to ten minutes. And I read the article, and it doesn't look like that that looks like a flower and this looks more like a stick. Even if the tissue is dead and shrivled i cant imagine it could have ever looked like that. I have seen him pass sperm plugs before and they didn't look like what he has now either. If it is a plug and i soak him can he pass it on his own, because until i get him to the vet i don't feel comfortable pulling on it. I know i can pull it out more but i would have to use a little force while holding the tail and not just grabbing it with some tweezers to guide it out. I hope it just passes it overnight cause my dog is going in for surgery tomorrow and to have to take him too is going to bust me.

That should have been sufficient - if it was going to help at all.
If it is impacted waste, he may strain to pass it and in so doing cause a prolapse, so a vet visit, though it may "bust you" is still worthwhile.

Good luck with your dog also!

Soak him for an hour-plus in just an inch or two of water. Only deep enough that it keeps his vent underwater. After an hour, "if" it is a plug, it should be soft enough to just gently slide out.

The reason I say soak for an hour is that "if" that is a sperm plug, it is a mondo big one that has been forming for some time. I don't think a regular 5-10 minute soak is enough in that case.

How does the bulge part of his tail feel when you squeeze it? Does it all feel normal and fleshy or does any part feel abnormally hard?

The dr that does reptiles wasn't in on thursday so it had to wait till today. Got the surgery done it was one of his hemepenes and she had to remove it. I know the vet so i got to watch and it was pretty cool. He's back home but is still out of it and said he will be for up to 24 hrs. i also have to oral meds he needs to get once a day and have to clean out the hole with some solution. Not sure if he'll pull through but I did what I could. Everyone keep your fingers crossed.

thanks will keep you updated but right now he turned really red and yellow when he is usually green and blue any idea why.

I think he might have been a little cold he's still not moving much other then his tail and i have him laying on a hot water bottle i just warmed it up and he's getting his color back. I came back down after i warmed it up and had a little scare, he was laying on his side with his mouth open and he poop. I thought he was dead but he's still breathing and must have just had to poop.

Hmm, yeah, I had a feeling that wasn't just a sperm plug. Sorry to hear it, too. When I've had chameleon surgeries, including a couple hemipenectomies, they've been out of the influence of the anesthesia by the time I brought them home. Your last post about him being on his side sounds really scary and not normal in my experiences. Hopefully he'll pull through. He'll likely be showing those stress colors for a few days because of the pain, also.

just read this entire thing. had no idea hemipeins could look like that. glad i know. glad hes hopefully going to be ok! i want an update!
