Something stuck in my chameleon

The other picture you posted did not show up. If your chameleon has MBD that is another thing that could be causing him pain. They need calcium for their bones to develop. If you never gave him any, then most likely he has that too. That is why I asked to see his front legs, as his back legs look to have MBD(Metabolic Bone Disease) I am sorry for your chameleon and I hope if you cannot get the surgery then you can end his suffering.

I'm so sorry to hear about all this. This is a big worry for me in getting a cham. I know I'm still new here and learning all I can before bringing one home but I just have to say I do want your ER for dogs. I can't walk out of mine for under $1,000.00.

Pet Insurance

Find an insurer that will cover reptiles.. I live in the UK, so my knowledge of US pet insurers is lacking, or alternative is find out what the premiums are, and instead each month put that amount in a savings jar...

Care Credit is good here some take it some do not. Its also good for us humans to use at doctor visits. I agree to put money away for the animals. I'm with you 100%. I don't have human kids though and the animals are my kids. I rushed one of my reptiles in to the vet and ran a ton of tests when nothing was wrong with her. I just was in a panic. So yes in this case I would have just gone to the vet and not waste time on here. But everyone is different. I had my vet picked out before I even brought home my first reptile. Went for an interview with them. Did the same for my dogs and had to lose one of the best vets I had as he moved back to WA. So back to the interview process I went. But not just anyone is going to work on my kids. I should have been a vet if I could just get over the fact of having them put down.

i am new to the hobby and now i know if i see something strange hanging out of my chameleon i can act quickly and save my chameleon and money along the way, FWIW, its sad that it had to be put down but now all newbies including me, are a little wiser

Yes that's a prolapse. I've dealt with a couple. I hope you can get to a vet. In the meantime, I do see a bit of a wet shine on the organ, use a mix of sugar and warm water and carefully pour it in the organ, this will keep it hydrated and gives a better chance of getting it back in.

Scoob, exoticdirect is a pretty good. Petplan did it too I think. Not too expensive either.

Thanks Guys :)

To let you know I have no issue getting insurance for my cham, but have just witnessed a number of people on forums unable to pay for a vet...

They are mostly people in the states, and so I am not sur if such an insurance exists out there...

If anyone does have any knowledge of reputable US exotic pet insurers then please mention here :)

I am going to also go through more of the forums...

Message a few admins of site, and try to build a "portfolio" of exotic pet insurers world wide, similar to the vet listings...

Reason for possibly contacting site admins, and to be honest I have not checked the site sponsors is I think part of pet care should include a method of payment should a pet need medical treatment, to many pets suffer unnecessarily.

Any update?

If you take it to the vet and not the emergency room it will not cost $1,000. I have paid to have this surgically fixed and it only cost me $200-300. If you do not ask the questions you will never know. To me, euthenasia is a last resort. Maybe there is someone in your area that would adopt the cham and pay for the surgery.
