Ok here it goes,

I have approximately give or take, a 5-6 month old male jacksons. I got him from a reptile show.
The good. I have had three vields and successfully bred and I am good with understanding and reading their behavior and body language.
He seemed healthy; clear eyes, clean nostrils, strong grip (for his age), and real lively. Eats and drinks extremly well, and defacates almost daily now. His enclosure is to my belief ideal and the best it could be for him. I have a fogger that I run in the morning when I wake him up and before I feed allowing him to drink his fill first.

The bad. First time jacksons keeper. Sometimes after I feed he'll raise his chin very high and I DO NOT understand this body language. And I haven't found any hard proof or any great info on feeding and dusting. I offer about 10-12 crickets along with aroung 4 meal worms. I understand I need to mix it up with different worms and such. I also dust with calcium once a week. Please any good info will help the little guy.

What kind of fogger do you use and how long do you keep it on for? I don't feed mealworms as the exoskeleton can cause impaction. I do use superworms also known as King Mealworms. All of my Jacksons will do the raised head thing but they only do it when another cham is too close. How big is the lil guy? My adult Jacksons are fed every other day and the babies up to 6 months are fed twice to three times a day. The adults food is dusted with calcium without d3 every other feeding as all of my females are gravid. Vitamin powder once every other week. Calcuim with d3 once a month. My guys are kinda spoiled in that they get superworms, crickets, dubai roaches and wax worms regularly. And when available I get them silk worms, horned worms, and butterworms. I hope this helps, if you have any other questions feel free to pm me.

Lifting the head while swallowing can be a sign that the food is too big. He may be having a tough time swallowing it. Do you know what sub species he is?

Hi there, I have a male and female Jackson's. I've had Triton, my male, for about two years now and I just got a 4 mos female Rosie. I pretty much do the same supplement schedule as KingKameha. I use calcium w/o D3 every other day. Calcium with D3 once a month and a multivitamin once a month. Jackson's are very prone to over supplementation and it can cause edema and other endocrine problems. I feed my Jackson's as much as he wants everyday. They don't seem to gorge on feeders as other types of chams do. He ate when he was hungry and didn't when he wasn't. Currently, he eats 2-4 adult crickets a day when he's hungry but will skip days on his own. I've never feed meal worms for the same reason that they don't have much nutrition. All the feeders that KingKameha recommended are great for variety. I'm sure You know to gut load your feeders really well. Regarding a fogger, I've never used one. What I do know is that Jackson's being a Montane Rain forest species really love water but at the same time need good ventilation. I've tried to get mine to drink out of a dripper..but they just won't do it. They like being squirted with a spray bottle..like simulating rain and love to sit under it and drink right from the nozzle until they get their fill.
I hope this helps and you can also pm me any time with questions :) Natalie

Can you describe a little more what he is doing when he is lifting his head. Does he do it when he's eating or drinking?? Could he be displaying to you??? My Jackson's will head bob at me. I'm just trying to get a little more of a handle on what you mean :)

Unfortuneatly I don't have a photobucket (yet) I think that's how I would upload picss yea? And yes natalie I feel its a display of dominance as In "This is my house hear me roar" lol but not so much a bob. I've only had him a week and a half too though. And he drinks extremely well :) and eats omg can he eat.

But he does the chin up after eating and drinking. And sometimes he'll get on his highest perch after I enter our room and do it lol. Its possible he's just a cocky tough guy :) and he's trying to scare me off

He is already beginning to display colors and goes for the food dish when I unzip his domain. The only time I go in is to feed or to remove dead or unwanted crickets. I feed him in a medium plastic cup that I got crickets in a few years back with a branch that goes about halfway into it.

I play a bit more on the careful side with supplements for my jacksons. They are very easy to over supplement so I give calcium no d/3 once a week, calcium with d3 once a month and multivitamins once a month. I let my cages dry between mistings, except where the drippers are, but I mist 3 times a day and most nights run a humidifier. I also keep mine just a few degrees cooler than most do. Not saying it is what you should do just offering another way jacksons are kept.

I personaly think he is being over fed. Trioceros should not be fed so much food as you would a veiled.
Even if its a young chameleon it does not need that much food.
I would cut back on the amounts of food you give him.

And I agree with Laurie, becareful with supplementing jacksons, you can easily over do it.
