source of calcium with w/o vitamin D3 in Michigan, US - and is with D3 necessary

Hi all,

I live in Michigan, USA. What are people's opinions on calcium powder without vitamin D3 - what manufacturers/brand are best, if there are better or best types?

Second question - there seems to be variability in what I see said about vitamin D3 as to whether it is required for certain species of chameleons. I just yesterday got a Veiled Chameleon. I have what seems to be a very good UVB fluorescent tube (ZooMed Reptisun, brand new). Do you think calcium with D3 is needed along with calcium w/o D3?

I keep my Veiled on a very common supplementation schedule amongst chameleon keepers. Calcium without D3 at every feeding. Calcium with D3 twice a month, and Herptivite also twice a month. I use Rep-Cal supplements. I have a dual bulb linear fixture for UVB and daytime lighting. So to answer your second question, D3 twice a month in conjunction with your UVB bulb is appropriate.

Rep-Cal is manufacturer I use. It’s three different supplements you need. Herptivite (blue label) is the multivitamin administered twice a month. The other two are the Calcium without D3 (green label) for daily feedings and the Calcium with D3 (pink label) twice a month.

Rep-cal is very good, because most (if not all) of its products do not have any phosphorus. I have not seen them in stores, but that may just be the shops in my area. You can definitely order them online, and they sell many different ratios of calcium and vitamins. You might not need as much D3 supplement, especially in the summer, if there is already a lot of sunlight exposure. The sun will provide enough vitamins, and you do not want to overload their system. This is just what I have learned and experienced. There are plenty of other good brands, though. Oh, well @DarinD beat me to it! Posted it right before I did lol

Unlike Camryn, I was to at least find Heptivite in this area. Getting the other online.

That is good. For some reason, good chameleon supplies cannot be found in my area unless you know where to look. I will have to order mine online. Also, thank you @DarinD for giving me ideas on how to differ the chameleon calcium supplement even more.

REPASHY!!!! Use the bug burger for gutload and the calcium plus for supplements. It has a small enough dose of D3 to be used as your only supplement. Kammerflage uses it by itself and I do as well. Have had fantastic results so far with no issues and healthy Panthers!
