spacing between enclosures

A room in my house has opened up and I am setting it up as a chameleon room! There is one thing I am concerned about and this is how far part the chameleons can be before they begin to get stressed. I have three panther chameleons (One male 3.5 months, ant two females one is one year old and the other one is 4.5 months). I would like to avoid putting in barriers to block their view of each other as much as possible for aesthetic reasons. The room is 12 feet by 7 feet. With the dimensions of the enclosures factored in, they can be 8 feet apart. Is this long enough?

if they can see each other then the chance for stress is there, thats why ppl use the barriers. And that small room they would see each other from any corner I suspect.

There are creative and aesthetic solutions for visual dividers. Someone once said that they bought sheets of thin acrylic and spray painted it a frosted white. If you could then attach it to each side of the cage, I think that would make for a really clean looking divider. And then you could space them however you wanted, really.

It may take a little creative thinking but there are aesthetic alternatives, I'm sure.

You can also add more foilage inside their cages, and on the outside. Get a artificial plant and put in between cages. OR that all may backfire because they may want to always get out and climb on them.

Adding more foilage inside will def help. No matter what, that is a good problem to have. Trying to figure out how to set up 3 chameleon cages in their own room! Enjoy...

You'll just have to see how they react. I kept my panther cage directly across my Jackson's on the other side of the room and they didn't care. But I've heard other people with chams who can't tolerate the sight of any other chams at all. It depends on their individual personalities. Dividers don't have to be ugly. I have 4 cages in a row and hung a patterned green fabric to separate between them (between the clear plastic lining you can't see). It blends in with the foliage of the cages so I think it looks nice personally. And the row of cages looks pretty sweet. ;) I've also had just 2 cages together and then the third somewhere else in the room. So you can combine 2 to give you more space to work with for the third.

That may have been me, I hot glued a frosted thin sheet acrylic to the side of each of my enclosures. They all 4 are side by side and can't see into the other enclosure.

My two are also not bothered one bit by each other. I did watch them for the first few weeks, and had barriers ready to go incase someone got stressed. But they ignore one another. I do however have a fair amount of foliage on the sides of their cages that are together now.

Yea, probably was you. I thought it was spray painted, I didn't know they came available in frosted but that's good to know. When I read it I thought it was a really clever idea.

They didn't come frosted, i bought some window frosting spray paint and painted the acrylic before attaching to the enclosure. Its neat stuff, it actually frosts the acrylic so its translucent but just shadows can be seen like real frosted glass.

You can get frosted corolplast plastic sheeting ( like $30 for a 4'x8' sheet ) at most hardware stores and just cut it to size. I then wrap the edge facing out in black tape and it is basically out of sight, but provides a good barrier

I was looking for something like what Hoj mentions but nobody around here carries that. Would had to buy online, and the stuff i got comes 2x4 already so no cutting was needed.

Home depot carries it, it is back with he plexiglass. Also it is the same stuff basic sign like real estate signs are made out of. Most sign shops can get it in anu color you want. And most towns have a sign shop

I know hd sells it but the ONE here does not carry it on the store, it's an online order same as my lowes. Thats why i said i would of had to buy online.
