Species to start with

This is just my Honest opinion

I would say panther or veiled. It really comes down to how much money you want to spend.

A male panther can be about $250.00-$400.00...A female will be about $150.00-$300.00...It also depends on the locale you choose.

A male veiled will be around $75.00-$150.00...A female will be $50.00-$100.00

I would reccomend a veiled more because it's cheaper and just a little bit more easier to take care of (I've never owned a Veiled buts thats what I have heard).

Once you've had you first cham for awhile and think you've got the hang of it, you can start to add more (WARNING CHAMELEONS ARE ADDICTIVE :p).

But then again this is just My Opinion.

Hopes this helps you decide,
Sophie :D

A price list, great! New info :)

A veilded. That's the main thing people are recommending me, and is what I've red in this week of research. Still, don't know what to take..

Time will tell!

Just being busy with gathering info and talking about is already very addictive, the real deal must be to!

Thanks for your post!

From my personal experience (not an expert) i would say that veileds and panthers are almost identical in care. I know there are small differences in each but basic husbandy can be interchanged between the two. In addition to researching specific care id take a look at some pictures and videos of each species to see which one you see yourself loving for the next 5-9 years. Id suggest an Amilobe panther, their color spectrum is amazing. Either way you cant go wrong when getting a cham. Welcome to your future addiction.

Help

I donot know why I can't post new threads and I can't reply in some forums too? Why?

Thanks! Every encloser helps me with how I want to build it. 200$ is cheap!

I want to make a little paradise as perfect as possible. I noticed that it comes with a different price..

no prob man, my cage is a bit huge but thats what i wanted so when my female dies and i get a male itll still have a huge cage even for a male...

oh and btw i preffer "veiled" for the price obviously, and i preffer the shape of a veileds head, if you get a really good colored male i think the veileds look the best of all chameleons IMO, such as "Janoris" from FL chams, very nice....

i would say go with a panther as i was in the pet shop today and the veild chamelon went for me when i was holding him yet the panthers just loved being with people and are more of a pet

This isn't really accurate. Every chameleon is different. It's best to limit handling as much as possible, but some will tolerate it better than others.

Haha kinda jeah. Buying a cheaper chameleon would be wiser. I'm not totally sure what I'm going to do yet..

With what kind off chameleon did u guys start with?

Veilded?

The first chameleon I bought was a Jackson's, and that was about a month ago. About two weeks later, I bought a Veiled.
Buttttt, my Jackson's hasn't been doing so well the last couple of days /: I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with him, but I haven't come up with much yet. I'm starting to think the Jackson's was a little out of my league for a first chameleon. :(
My Veiled is dong just fine though!

That's good to know. I'll definitely would get a panther someday! Haha it really seems that this is VERY addictive.. great!

I made some changes to my cage, I'm going to go for 100l x 50w x 125h this because I only could get this heat holding water resistant wood, for certain diameters. Should be oke right?

Lol, I've typed it wrong several times. Many post have a extra 'd' in it(that's why i thought.. oh, spell it like that! And kuskye, I will keep my eye open for a nice janoris veiled cham! I totally agree on the shape thing!

Hello, welcome to the forum :) If you decide to go for a Veiled then this is a great basic caresheet I like to recommend to new people - https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/chameleonsinmyhouse/395-veiled-chameleon-care-sheet.html

Thanks men! I'm very glad there is such a topic. Did come past it already though! ;)

Any more of these very useful topic's I should know off?

Oke! That's a way to give form to your opinion, totally respect that.

Jackson's also crossed my mind, but because of your example, it is a no-go for me with that species.
I'm sorry to hear that.. Did u already post it on the sickness topic they have here? Hope he will get well soon!
Its good to hear that your veiled is doing just fine!

I've put some lipstick on my forehead and made up my mind!

Going for:

(the sound of drums)

Veiled!

-This because its the 'safest' species to begin with.
-Their kinda the sturdiest species of all the chameleon species.
-The costs for making my enclosure are building up.. 100 euro's already and that's just for the wood for the back and the bottom and the screen at both sides.
- They all are beautiful!

Everybody helped to make up my mind, so thanks a lot for that!

Here's Jack! He's almost 11 months old! He's an Ambanja panther, and I started with him. Well tempered, he loves to come out and hang, and has never gave me much troubles!

Thanks for the kind words! I have no experience with vields... But from what I hear, they are great starters. I started with Jack, and have had no horrible issues thus far, aside from a minor Vit A deficiency! I got him as a baby, around 3-4 mo. And he hated me! I can say though from experience that he's incredibly affectionate now, and jumps out when I get close to the door. He's a lover now! I don't regret going with my banja panther. My next will be a melleri I think... Not too sure yet!

Vit A deficiency? How did u know that if i can ask? I've already bought Miner-All and Calcium without D3, that's what a breeder recommended me..

I've made contact to a breeder that has babies from the species Furcifer Pardalis Nosy Mitsio, in januari they will be old enough to be sold.

Nice animals to keep?

Absolutely beautiful animals to keep.
When I started out with Jack, he was about 4 months. I was not gut-loading his meals right.... If I can give any advice from experience, do not gutload your crix with orange cubes... Use greens and veggies. There are a couple very well written blogs with gutload ingreds, check them out.

I knew something was wrong because he shut his left eye for a couple days and would not open it. I took him to the vet and the vet immediatelly diagnosed him with vit a deficiency. It was not too severe, the vet gave him a quick injection and a drop in his eye. His eye immediatelly opened up and since i've started to gutload right, Ive had absolutely no probs!

Keep me updated on what your lookin for please!

Good to hear it was nothing too servere! Jeah, they are definitely beautiful looking animals! Thanks for the tip, I also red a lot about gutloading, but didn't red anything about orange cubus. Not going for that stuff, gonna feed my crix fresh food.

What kind of diameters does your crix enclosure have? I have totally no idea how big that should be..

I've just emailed the breeder of the pardalis, and asked for a picture of a for-sell male. If I'm going to buy him at that breeder he will be aprox 4 months old aswell!

Can't wait to see, will def post it here too!

I'm now having contact with a breeder from my city. He has some offspring from the Furcifer Pardalis Blue Bar, BEAUTIFUL ANIMALS!
