the black widow bite is a joke compared to some of the things that bit him. He got bit by a centipede and a bullet ant, so a black widow is nothing.

Bullet ant, is a fast instant sharp pain. It lasts 15-30 mins, and then subsides, its a quick sharp pain, nothing more.

A Black Widow bite, on top of 100% able to be lethal, which none of those he has been bit by are. Is not a quick sharp pain, it feels like a bite, or a bee sting, upon the bite, different from the bullet ants, painful at happening.

Its not the widows Bite/Sting that hurts, its the Toxin, that makes your whole body spasm, and your chest feel like its caving in, and your blood feel on fire, and paralysis. This is not a 15-30 min pain, this is a few days of constant severe pain, that 100% of the time requires hospitalization and sometimes ends in Death, especially when stung more than once. Bullet ants, no matter how much they sting you, will never cause Fatality. This is apples and oranges, and thinking a Black Widow bite is a joke, is ill advised.


His "Stinging" tests, are only the ones that have the quick sharp sting, and 100% can not be life threatening. He is not allowing bites from Rattle Snakes, or Brown Recluses, Black Widows, ect, as those things are not quick sharp "Stings" they are prolonged, and sometimes fatal toxic pains.


Also watch the video, that was the point. He is TERRIFIED to be bit by that widow. He is handling it, to show folks they dont bite for no reason. However the whole time, he speaking very softly, and stating repeatedly, how much he cannot afford to be bit.

As you said, and that was my point. He lets all these insects bite him, and even he is scared of the Widows bite.

• a severe increase in blood pressure
• a headache, which may be partially due to a change in blood pressure

• weakness
• a fever

Apparently bites are very rarely fatal, so I wouldn't call it "100% able to be fatal", peanuts are also 100% fatal if your allergic, and the rare and extreme cases are probably from allergic reactions to the venom or the meds.

No he told you in the video why they are rarely fatal. The Widow does not inject enough to be fatal most of the time, this applies to grown adults, with a grown adult spider, and a single bite. Baby spiders tend to release more venom, bite more than once, ect. A child will not survive the same amount of venom as an adult, ect.

I was not saying that a Rattler bite hurt, I was saying he also didnt let the rattlesnakes bite him.

He was purposefully bitten by a gila monster, and a lion fish and those have serious bites. And yea nobody has every purposefully got bit directly, but quite a few people free handle black widows, which is honestly asking for it.

Gila Monster bite is overrated imo, I been bit by a Gila. They have a bacteria in their mouth that can cause infection in the wound, if its not cleaned, thats the only way its dangerous.

I wish they would let us keep Gilas, I know some folks do, but the laws on it are sketchy. I would love to keep and breed gilas, and do live in AZ.

I have diatomaceous earth around my feeder bins and I still get the occasional spider in them. I use the smush technique to control them.

My understanding is that diatomaceous earth will not prevent spiders or other pests from crossing, but rather, if they cross, they will soon die from all the cuts they receive.

Ehh like that of a small dog I guess, I went to the hospital as it broke the skin, and my folks thought it would be a problem, and they said its fine it just needs cleaned, they cleaned it and dressed it and I didn't have any issues.

I got bit, as me and some friends were playing with it. we were passing it around, and I put my left hand too close to its mouth, and it got bit. It wasn't the first one we found and played with, and wasn't the last, usually in my experience they are fairly calm, that one just was upset.

I got bit by a Large Skink, that hurt worse than the Gila IMO, but I was younger then, so maybe thats why.


Edit: I am watching the Brave video, IDK he had one my daughter watches him and said he did and put it on. Right off, his thumb got bit, maybe why he said it hurt worse. I got bit, on my palm from the pinky side, the chunky area, under your pinky. I was a small boy, and it was a big gila, it left teeth marks, but didn't scar, did draw blood. I have been bit by Chihuahuas, it was like that imo. I was only like 10-11, and I dont recall my blood feeling on fire, just a sore hand, but that was a long time ago, so maybe? I dont recall being sick, I do recall the hospital doing nothing, which Brave is saying there is nothing they can do, idk. This was over 20 years ago, so if I was sick, it didn't make a 20 year memory impact.

Could have been. I watched that Tyler guy video, and he said the venom sacs are in the bottom, so they are not as good at pushing venom, and tend to flip their prey upside down, so they can get venom in them.

quick question about the black widows to anyone who knows... has its venom been compared to the venom of some other well known animal because from reading this i've gathered that the black widow is deadly... but also not deadly at the same time? depending on the age of the spider i guess? i don't think i'm catching on but this is a god topic considering i have a lot of the black widows and brown recluses in the area. in MD i saw one at my schools courtyard during my freshman year of homecoming!! great way to spend the night lol...

It has the possibility to be deadly. Depends, how many times you were bit, your body size, your age, your immune system, how much much venom the spider used, ect.

The article I linked earlier, was a grown man, large, healthy, 40. He still passed, as he was bit 19 times, by the same spider, it was in his shoe, that article doesn't go into much detail, but I vaguely remember that on the news, and he was in a Coma, up until he died.

All bites from venomous insects, reptiles, etc are dangerous. Some people react much worse than others. Sometimes one dose of anti-venom is enough, sometimes it takes hundreds. It’s basically dependent on the envenomation dosage, and the individual’s bitten allergic reaction to the venom. And to compare a black widow’s bite or brown recluses to say a bullet ant is total apples and oranges. One will “hurt” the most, the others may very well dissolve tissue, cause you to bleed uncontrollably, and yes, potentially die.

Apparently, they are deadly only in "extreme and rare cases". I think basically they are not deadly unless you have some kind of allergic reaction.

That was likely a False Widow, not a Black Widow. Case in point of the thread, its hard to tell the difference.

Its an orb weaver of some kind. They frequently show up in my cricket orders. Beneficial animal, they eat flies and things.
