i would think they would fair a lil better in transit in a box. Seems to be packaged well tho.

That was my initial though since postal service can be so careless. But my first ooth hatched out just fine(aside from the fact most of them drowned:eek:). Ill be setting my next one up soon. I also would recommend Spiffy Bugs!:D

How did you keep yours?
I think the chances of catching them hatching are slim, and Im worried the jar isnt big enough, and it will be chaos when I find them:eek::p

I have like a 15gallon fishtank for when they hatch. I thought about putting it in. It would just be harder to keep warm I think.
Any experienced advice youd like to pass along?
Ive never hatched one. ;/

Id keep them in the jar, i used a 10g tank and it was kind of a mess. Take a big ball of paper towel or tp, wet it and stick it in the bottom of the the jar. You'll want to keep the humidity at about 60% and temp about 80 and Lightly mist the ooth daily or every other day. I found that the warm spot on my uvb fixture stays about 85 while its on so that might be a good place to keep it. If your going to want to grow them to a decent size, order youself a bunch of deli cups and seperate them. Mine have been munching on D. Hydei since I moved them to the deli cups np.

Thanks.
Ill keep them in the jar.
I have been keeping them in the water heater closet.
My cham room gets to cold at nite.
I can get FF in town here, but havnt ever messed with them.
Guess its time to read up ;/

FF are easy, just get one culture, and enough supplies to make say five more and that should be plenty. You will also want to purchase some mite shelving paper. After the first time doing it youll be a pro. I use joshsfrogs for all my ff supplies.
A single culture should last a couple weeks at least. You will want to start a new one about a week before the other is finished

Im down to 23 i think. A couple cannibalized because i was keeping them in twos. But i think it was cuz i let them run out of flies. Forgot to start my next one early:eek: they are still only about a 1/4" in size so unfortunately theyre still too small. Probably another month before I can feed them:(

My mantid ooth hatched sometime early this morning, 14 days after receiving it:)
Thanks again Kara!
I have them all in a small screen enclosure now, and will seperate as many as I can tomorrow. :)

They are epic tiny...

First off I like and recommend Spiffy Bugs as well.
I hatched mine in a deli cup then placed them in a plastic storage bin.
Check these pics out of what I found. Someone with one creative mind.

All this talk of little mantids running about inspired me to order a couple oothecas, and with 15 baby panthers now, another 75 or so eggs incubating, and 4 very hungry adults - I see a nice variety in the normal diet in the near future. Thanks for the idea/inspiration!!

They are easy to hatch, and the hatchlings would be perfect for baby chams. I threw some of them in my jacksons cage, and even though they are tiny, she went crazy for them!
It looks like a Dr. Seuss forest...

Looks like Blackreach in Skyrim...

I love that tank! great idea~

Snake, now you are raising mantids, silks are next and then flies. Then you will find yourself with a butterfly net in the yard trying to catch butterflies..Seriously start planning your cham room now. It is inevitable, your rational/sane side will only delay what will come. ;)

You got it bad...as carol has told me LOL
