Spring Outdoor Free Range Parsonii

Motherlode Chameleon

Chameleon Enthusiast
This is a spring outdoor free range of my Orange Eye White Lip Calumma parsonii parsonii pair Rhinos and Trudy. The two of them are soaking natural sunshine, water from the hose and time outside of any kind of enclosure. This time of year in my part of central California has the perfect conditions to free range Calumma parsonii parsonii outdoors for extended periods of time. There is great temperatures, decent humidity, and is early enough in the season that the sun is not a scorcher to Calumma parsonii parsonii extremely sensitive skin. Meaning they can stay outside for extended periods of time.

There are some risks with outdoor free ranging even with all the pluses. There are legitimate concerns such as runaways and deaths from predators (birds of prey and raccoons). These have to be addressed with outdoor supervision while free ranging or with giant outdoor enclosures. The pluses are there though, for free ranging outdoors if your not outdoor free ranging already.

Can you spot the Parsonii pair in the first photo?

Awesome.

Can I ask what part of central California you're in?

I'm in the Fresno area. Corcoran, specifically.

Looks like your Chams found their Happy place, love the blue
Dave

They look forward to time outside of enclosures. Outside free range time seems to be a big plus in their lives. This is especially evident when they are soaking natural UV and water from the hose. They seem to be indulging more than normal.

I am located somewhat in your area. I am located in the foothills about 55 minutes north of Yosemite. Sorry that is all I am going to say.

Anyone spot the pair in the first photo yet?

Wasn't trying to pry, just always a bit overly excited to know someone with similar interests is in this area of California, rural as it is.

I have family in inyo/mono county. Beautiful country. Much nicer than the barren wasteland I call home.

So jealous you guys and gals in California and Florida have the perfect conditions for keeping chameleon outdoors here in the northeast suck!!:(

Trudy's getting big! She looks good Jeremy.

She is healthy Bob. She has a steady appetite and looks as though she is going to become a good sized female breeder Orange Eye White Lip Calumma parsonii parsonii.

I think free ranging outside helps. All my chameleons responded great to being outside free ranging. However the Parsonii especially respond well to being outside and free ranging.

Depending on how big your homes yards is and what kind of tree's and bushes you have got in your yard. You absolutely can outdoor free range your chameleons on a large bush or small tree under supervision in the North East USA on a nice day.

I think he is saying its to cold most of the year to keep them outside. I live in Wisconsin and we are still getting snow this time of year. And I found the cham in the third pic.

I heard what he said. It is although you may not be able in some locations (in the USA) to keep chameleons outside year round. You have got windows of time where you can keep them outside for a couple of hours up to 3 months outside of the sunshine states. Wisconsin summers normally are 70-85ish (to the best of my knowledge). I had an old contact (I am one and there are many others whom free range there chameleons outdoors) from that Wisconsin-Michigan area whom used to free ranged his Parsonii for the summer time frame under those condition. This is worth the time as chameleons thrive and respond great to some time outside of their enclosure.

I wont be free ranging my cham outside with birds and other predators outside. I know a guy whos dog was taken by an owl and he was standing about 10 to 15 feet away. I don't want to come across in a bad way. I respect your decision to do that

Predators are a concern. I am supervising near the chameleon that if something did ever happen I could break up whatever was happening fast. Sorry to hear about the dog.

Everyone has got 1 out of 2. There are 2 Calumma parsonii parsonii free ranging on the tree. Look for the male Parsonii in photo number 2.
