Status of my new female veiled

I understand, I was just telling you what will happen, so if you feel the petstore has "scammed" you out of a friend as well as money later..

I know you don't want the money, who does, except breeders? You have your heart in on this one, not your wallet.
It's admirable, really, but I just wanted to bring the facts to your attention.

I think I am going to have to force feed her, how do I go about doing this? Also, pet stores are now closed and I do not have a nightime bulb, what should I do to make sure she has heat at night?

Ok, thank you.

Had to do this once with a beardy a long time ago.. Had to pry her mouth open and stick a bug in.. I've found better ways to force feed since then, though.. You can either create a bug-mush, or some call it a bug juice, where you squish the bugs together and suck it into a syringe... get her to open her mouth and squeeze it in. Sometimes this is enough to get them wanting more... other times you have to keep squeezing the mush in.

If you do this, please be sure not to squeeze forcefully. Try not to get it into her lungs.

I'm not sure if you should add supplements to the feeders when you do this, though.

Ok, thanks a bunch syn. Anyone else got suggestions? Or had succesful attempts with the bug juice syringe method?

I have in my care a panther with advanced MBD. My vet showed me 2 ways to feed him. First is to put a thumb and finger over his nose (just above his mouth) BUT only for a few seconds. If the cham doesn't gape at you then you need to very gently pull down on the skin under the mouth/neck. This always works but it sure kills me to do it. If the little one hasn't eaten in a while make bug juice. That is ensure, pedalite, and crushed crickets. Ensure & pedalite can be purchased at the grocery store. Hope this makes some sort of sense, it is almost 1 AM & I am heading for bed. best of luck.

I mashed two crickets, 1 hornworm and 1 superworm and then added some water and calcium powder. I was able to load her mouth with the watery solution about 3 times.

Here are some pictures of her current condition and size. As of right now she is sleeping underneath a red night bulb. She is now constantly showing her normal lima bean colors and has not once gone fully black since her return from the vet. Every once in awhile she will fully open her eyes and walk around a bit, almost like a burst of energy, but soon afterwards she fatigues again and rests with her eyes shut. She is breathing steadily and takes some deep breaths every once in awhile. As of right now, she seems to be improving. I am planning on feeding her twice with bug juice and pedialite everyday, maybe even three times a day.

Just please watch her temps so you don't cook her. The mouth open convulsing thing can sometimes happen due to dehydration. You have a digital thermometer riight?

Yes, her cool area is at 78.9 degrees (this is the area where she is currently sleeping). Her basking spot is upper mid 90s (as requested by the vet).

The eye looks exactly like all the cases of eye damage caused by Coil bulbs... I not saying it couldn't be something else, but I think that is what happened here. I would point this out to the store... I would print out the second pic of your cham, and print out the pics in this link on the effects of Coil UV Bulbs then take them to the store... And request your money back for the animal. Tell them you have the poor girl receiving vet treatment right now because of conditions they have provided for her. Ask them if they are in the hobby of blinding their animals before they sell them?

Even if nothing is done it may make them consider their husbandry... as selling sick animals, is not good business for a pet store.

Keep her well hydrated-is she still in her cage? Of course let her sleep at night, but tomorrow get her plenty of fluids-sounds like the crushed bugs stuff you did was good. The increased temps will dry her out but help her fight. I sure hope you get her through this.

Ya her damaged eyes are definitely the cause of this in my opinion :(. She was beginning to open her more often though throughout the end of the night, hopefully she is regaining eye sight. My roommate and I may even press charges so that this pet shop learns its lesson.

Thanks Julirs, I am going to thouroughly mist her throughout the day tomorrow. She really got a lot of life from the fluid shot the vet gave her. In the car on the way back home, she was climbing all around my hands with her eyes fully open, she was also showing no stress colors. If she does not improve somewhat by tomorrow, I am going to take her in for another fluid injection. I am trying my best to save this little girl, thank you show much to all of you for your help. I am not giving up on her and right now things are still shakey, but she might just make it. Please keep posting on this thread, I am reading everyones suggestions carefully and its such a relief to see more comments by all of you.

higher temps will only help if its an infection, or bacterial issue. If not its going to slow down the repair process since more weight is going to be place on regulating body temps

Also i would take her out side weather permitting. get the real deal on her to help regeneration and better synthesis of Vit D. she could sit on your hand, or on your should while you read a book or something for a few hours. Really perked Ocillie up when he was down

Well the vet called the hospitals reptile expert and he said to make sure she had high temperatures. I am doing my best to make sure she has a temperature gradient, when she got to the vet today she was very cold, even though her basking temps and heat gradients were normal. The vet told me to bump them up which I did, so far she seems to be responding better. I also shortened the enclosure to a height of about 10 inches, that way even if she decides to walk on the floor, she will still be receiving enough heat (also suggested by the vet).

Did the Vet say how old he thought she was?

I am thinking along your lines Docility if it is a dehydration issue. I really cannot make a suggestion on changing temps not knowing what is wrong.

I kept frequently checking on Mary Jane throughout the night, I made sure her humidity levels and temps were perfect and I also studied her very carefully for any abnormalities. She was breathing steadily and showing normal colors, although she was still noticeably weak. Today I woke up to find her dead. Last night it seemed like maybe there was hope after all, but unfortunately not. Please refrain from any "I told you so" remarks.

I think the heat may have done her in. Sorry it had to end out this way, I was really hoping for something better.
I really hope you show the pet store this thread. It has a lot of useful information and could help the future chameleons.
