Stay away

At least in my Country it is the opposite.
In the Hungarian Facebook groups you can find reputable breeders selling properly raised chams with quality bloodline.
On the other hand there are the bigger traders with their own webpage. They are usually selling veileds for 12-15 USD at the age of 3-4weeks.
(Then they charge an other 20$ for their vitamin powder which is a "home made recipe"... God it someone reads this from Hungary stay away from those...)

I'm sure there are good smaller FB groups, but there are certainly at least two giant groups that are a hot mess of crazy people and terrible advice.

CGW is where I'm pretty sure people who come here with terrible setups and worse attitudes go to get validation that their UVB-less, no calcium setup with a fish pond, hammocks, and multiple animals in a tiny cage is just *perfect* for a cham. :/

We try really hard to be helpful and nice here. The moderators actively discourage (and prohibit) the level of crazy and rudeness allowed on the FB pages. Sure CF has moments where we could respond better, but the depth of experienced knowledge here is astounding.

I'm not a FB person for those reasons in general, but even if I were, I wouldn't be a member there.

Sounds nice... (y)

I'm in an amazing group - but I certainly don't go there for advice. I feel bad for those that don't know better.

I was in a general reptile group that had a lady who insisted her cham loved to sleep wrapped up in a blanket and held like a baby all day... I "noped" out of there real fast.

Lol ^

Lathis I think that acronym is wrong. Close but all the way, and yep that was one of 3 that I left. I dont actually know which ones were the worse or semi better they all started to blend together.

Honestly the waterfalls took the cake for me.

I seen waterfalls being suggested every other post.

I like Chameleon Central on FB very much. There are alot of good keepers(and breeders) on there and yes there is misinformation given(as there is on here), but it is usually corrected pretty quickly.

By 'corrected' you mean banned because you politely disagree with the cuddles and the baths right?

Lol, I didn't see anyone get banned from that group (or any of them really) but IDK, guess I wouldn't see that.

I will say that one is not as bad as the others I was in, there was a bunch and I kinda just lumped them all together and left them all lol.

However I have been in quite a few different Facebook groups over the years. And that does seem to be the overlying issue. They are usually made by a group of friends that have set views if you disagree with those views then you dont fit the "Mold" and get das boot.

I always find my way back to real "forums". As they are ran more unbiased and professionally in my opinion. However in this case I didnt stick around long enough in any of them to see if that behavior prevailed or not.

After about the 100th waterfall post, it was time to go lol.

FB groups are always hit or miss, though I enjoy most the Chamaeleonidae group. The people there usually keep the species that are more rare in captivity and it's always interesting to see them.

Forums like this are better in my opinion. I think of them as a repository of information rather than a social club. It's just so much easier to search older threads than trying to comb through things on FB. I'll share photos and light stuff on FB, but I do my real reading up on care here.

There is good and bad in any group on Facebook. I am on a tortoise group that had a post one day on giving a carrot juice soak to an extremely ill and dehydrated tortoise to try and jump-start his electrolytes. The next day there were 20 different pictures of healthy torts with ground up carrots on their heads and shells. They called it "spa day"...

You only get banned for offering free cuddles and baths if you're creepy... wait did read this right?

In my opinion Facebook is conducive to sharing pictures and memes not so much for in depth information. If one is looking for a pithy conversation or more in depth information the forum format is much more appropriate.

The bottom line is if one is using facebook as a source for in depth information I feel sorry for them; but we all know there are many people these days who get most of their information from facebook.

Further, it is a huge pet peeve of mine when a business doesn't have a website and just links to their facebook page. If you are a business facebook is a promotional tool, not your dang home on the internet!!

You read that wrong. He was saying if you dont agree with their "Ideas" of what is okay or not they ban you.

I agree with you 100% I think FBook Groups lack structure. Admins like Trace :), on forums work very very hard. they try to better there forum, the community ect. Admins on Facebook are just kind of there, facebook groups to me seem to be more so a revolving door.

A lot of that and the amount of fail groups I think lends more too anyone can start a group in a few seconds. Where as a forum requires money work and passion for it to succeed Facebook groups just seem to pop up and pop out.

Agreed...I've even seen a few that don't even offer a contact phone. As I am happily Farcebook-deprived this lazy approach to a business just ensured that they'll never get mine!

I'm on FB and a member of lots of chameleon groups. I'm also a member on here.
I've seen the good the bad and the ugly on FB. People didn't get banned for bad advise but for harassing other members.
Yes there's bad advise on there but there is also very good people/keepers too.
I use Facebook as a tool to keep in touch with the keepers not for info.
If I need info I come here. It's still the best place for it.
If you use FB as I use it, it can be a great place.

To me Facebook is keep in touch with ur family n friends, unfortunately when friend's friend's and more friends comes in,things can get very interesting, thats when all the different opinions comes in,sometimes even the Federal government comes in just to monitor certain people's activity....it can be good or bad ,it all depending on how u use it correctly!!
