Hey guys there was a break in up here in Chicago and three female ambilobes and a 18 month old red bar yellow bodied male were stolen. I can't really imagine it happening, but keep an eye out in the Craigslists and for sales if you are near the area please!
No not mine. I was getting ready to purchase one of the gravid females, but hadn't made it over to the apartment, but I can't really imagine many places to sell these little babies. I never got the idea of stealing an animal, I mean its not like you'd have any idea on how to keep it, or Heck even what to feed it!

Thanks

To be honest, for some reason Im not really surprised. Anyone that knows about chams, especially panthers, know theyre worth a lot of money, and wouldnt mind keeping one. I wouldnt be trusting any friends that give off a bit of a shady vibe, and keep the house well locked up. Id be the type to install bulletproof windows just so someone cant just heave a brick and in they go.

Holy cow! Who steals chameleons? That sounds sick to me. Why would people steal animals anyway? It just sounds like even more trouble than stealing a TV. I won't get in this topic, but the thing is that somehow, the robber has to maintain the chameleons. There isn't a lot of people out there with chameleon keeping habits, so the robber probably knew what he/she was doing... jmo

That f'n stinks! I hate to hear this! Rat bastard people make me sick sometimes! I guarantee you this'll end up on Craigslist or worse, the flea market...

Wait where were they stolen from? some persons apartment? Im in chicago so i'll definitely keep an eye out. Do you have any pictures of them. I also notice that the chicago reptile house got a few new ambilobe females, idk if they are the same ones, but two of them were babies and one was an adult whom i think was gravid.

I sent this over to the owner.. I don't know if they are the same but apparently one of his little females has a particular marking that he has pictures of that will help to ID her..
I sorta hope that they are his, because at least they would be taken care of until the mess is sorted out.
He has a apartment in Chicago, I don't know which part. Hadn't made it there yet :( Damn wish I had gone out last week and gotten the poor baby. This stress can't be good for her.

Thanks, and keep an eye out just in case they aren't!

Geeez, I think this is possibly all our worsts nightmares. Everytime I'm gone for any period of time I get worried my roommate is going to have people over and this is eventually going to happen. I hope they get busted

Someone in my area just had someone break into their backyard aviary and decapitate almost their whole collection of rare Vasa Parrots (from Madagascar). Only 2 parrots survived, and one escaped in the attack and is missing. They are very expensive birds so they could have just stolen and sold them, but instead they chose to do something unbelievably cruel and malicious. There is no end to the horrible people in this world.

When I got robbed one of the first thing I checked on was the chams! I think they missed the whole room they were in (thank goodness!) because they stole all the electronics in the house except the computer, which was next to the cham cages. I was so thankful they left the chams (and my husband, who was asleep in the next room when it happened)!

Jesus. We're all going to hell. The human race is doomed! Glad your husband wasn't harmed...

Agreed! They took his phone and loaded all our stuff up in his truck and took that too. I was 5 hours away visiting a friend and the only way he could contact me was through email! Thank goodness I am a light sleeper and get email on my phone because it was just a beep at 3am to get his message and then a very long drive with me hyperventilating the whole time to get back home to him! We caught the bastards (more us than the cops) and got most of our stuff back at least!

I hope this person gets his chams back. :(

I hope they find the bastards.....

Wow

Dude I am so sorry. I can't imagine what that must feel like. I have heard more and more stories of breeder quality chameleons being stolen. Scary stuff.

its the panther you see in my avatar. he was 12 month old and starting to change his coloration. I would know him from a mile away. and 2 females(1 gravid). Hopefully insurance covers it. I pulled up the receipts for them. I live in a home and they broke the back window but couldnt git through it and then the back door lock was drilled out. also stolen were all of our passports, birth certificates, SSN's, jewelery, electronics, coin collections etc. I didnt know that panthers were such a hot commodity and worth risking going to jail to get. the chances of him popping up are slim. They obviously were stolen by someone that knows their value. no average robber would take pets.

Wow, I wouldn't put it past any thief! Definitely, watch CL. Thieves are DUMB. Some thieves here in Columbus stole some very rare coral from a local reef shop and then posted them for sale on CL, just to be busted.

Wow, that is horrible. Killed rare parrots and robbed you while your husband was asleep? That is ballsy and malicious. Good thing for the thieves, your husband was not a light sleeper and didn't have a loaded pistol in the night stand.

I recommend that everyone got to wal-mart and invest in indoor / outdoor camera system for under $400.00. It comes with 4 cameras, perfect for surveillance while away or at home. You can watch security footage in real time from your computer. Also, invest in an alarm system, firearms, and a guard dog. My Doberman will not take a raw piece of meat from a stranger, but is lovable to anyone I welcome inside. At my house my driveway, basement door, front door, entry way and back yard are under the watchful eye. The warehouse is fully covered with they eye in the sky. These cameras are worth every penny and you can find smaller systems for much less if you only have an apartment.

rotten

I hate hearing stories like this. My Rottie would love the opportunity to welcome one of these scumbags attempts to steal one of my babies.
