Stop Bill HR 669 - BILL TO BAN TRANSPORTATION OF REPTILES FROM STATE TO STATE

Ohhhh geeze! Will chameleons be able to be shipped in-state? I REALLY hope we will be allowed to keep them though, thats the main thing im worried about!

I dont think this will pass. Can you imagine how many herp vets across the country will be affected? They'll be out of a job.

Yeah but save for those two states, the other 48 will be, not to mention many breeders for CA and FL ship to these other states, which could hurt their profits. Does anyone know how successful this bill is as of right now?

Well, those two states are probably the only two that are invasive-prone, aside from hawaii. FL and CA probably stand to lose the most. I hope the industry is so strong in those states, that they put up the biggest resistance. It's so damaging to so many people, it cannot be allowed to pass.

One of the cosponsors is a main reason for our lovely little subprime mortgage mess. Man, these people are SO smart! I just want them telling me what to do in all areas of my life.

This is silly. There'd be no exotic reptile shows anymore, exotic pet stores would shut down (and theres about five here in kansas city), you wouldn't be able to get feeders anymore...

There are NO cham breeders near me whatsoever. I don't even think there are any in the state. I know there are a ton of chameleon owners here who get all of their chams from breeders in CA or FL. I don't see the relevance in not being able to transport exotic species from state to state, but you can breed them and sell them in your own state? They're still nonnative?

Uh. Almost every "pet" animal save for a dog or a cat is exotic to the United States. Lol. Herp vets are considered "exotics" specialists, so every exotic vets are going to be in serious doo-doo if this bill passes, not to mention every single pet store.

I really don't think is bill is going to pass. I guess we could all take up a pet squirrel hobby?

The bill, I do not believe, bans them outright - it just gives power and authority to the government to do so. So, it's vague, it's wide, it's not a simple law that can be understood and enforced. It's cumbersome and open to interpretation. Those are the worst laws.

The world may be full of gray areas, but if you try to write laws in anything but black and white, you're going to have trouble enforcing the laws.
