stressed about each other's presence

Hi all,

I have a question about my chameleon's behavior. I have two 4-5 month old male panthers. I recently got the second one about 2 weeks ago. I noticed that the first one has been not so happy ever since I got the second one. Whenever I go check on them, he's very dark(almost brown) and active, hanging upside down on the ceiling. They can both see each other.. The two cages are perpendicularly positioned and sometimes I can see that they are quite conscious and curious about each other's presence. They sometimes stare at each other's cage(?) especially whenever I feed them.

Is it possible that they are stressed to see each other at this age? I know that male chameleons are territorial.. Should I eventually block their cages or place them apart in order for them to be comfortable?

Chameleons as a rule want to be alone and don't want others to be in their space. I would move them to where they can't see eachother.

Well this is just based on me not seeing how everything is laid out, is it possible to place the cages next to eachother and place a divider between the two? If not the only other solution would be to place one of them out of the room or atleast at an angle where they can't really see eachother.

Best bet would be to position the cages where they cannot see each other. Even though some chameleons will not show signs of stress, they may be feeling it. This is natural for them because they tend to be territorial by nature. The general outcome will be worse for both the aggressor and the target. One will constantly feel he must defend its territory and the other will feel threatened. I would think 4 - 5 months would be the starting point for the aggression, but if newly introduced to each other I would imagine they would be that way even younger.

Thank you for your advice! I will put them next to each other. Given the fact that I am going to put a divider between the cages (I'm thinking of using a shower curtain), could the they be close to each other? I wonder if they will be stressed from hearing sounds.

Sound wont be an issue. A simple shower curtain that is not transparent will do the trick.

Walmart sells this white two foldings school project board for like $6. It is 36"l and 36"tall. You can cut to fit. Rejects water also. I use it between all my cages. Sturdy and works.

Yes I would split them as well, I just had to split my two. They were fine at first but now a few months older my female was not happy! See pics
