Sun Exposure and Lighting

Have you guys noticed your chams wanting less artificial light on the days that they get some exposure to natural sunlight?

I handled my new cham outside for about 30 mins and when I brought him back in he seemed to be trying to avoid his light sources shortly after.

I noticed this behavior probably around 4:30pm when I usually have his UVB and incandescent light on from ~8am to 7pm or so and havent noticed him doing that very much before.

Has anyone else had similar experiences?

I have my lighting setup where he can either get UVB+heat, UVB only, or heat only. It seems like he selectively chooses different areas of the cage throughout the day to give exposure to each of these light sources based on his preference.

Maybe your cham feels like his D3 tank is topped off so does not want any more UVB exposure.

Yeah I feel like his enclosure is set up similarly. I have a UVB tube light in the back with a perch and then his heat light towards the front with a couple perches inbetween so he can move between the two as much as he wants.

In this instance, he went to his spot where he usually sleeps which is behind some leaves that covers him from both light sources

I wouldn't be surprised if his body temp was where it should be and he had enough UVB exposure for the day that he would hide behind/under some leaves.

My cham spends plenty of time during the day under leaves to protect himself from UVB and basking heat exposure. Throughout the day he will roam up towards to top to get heat and/or UVB and then go back down under foliage. Keep an eye on it, but I wouldn't be too concerned.
