Switching to T5 HO & Arcadia's!

For anyone who is considering switching from their T8 fixtures to T5 fixtures I highly recommend it! I recently started the process of converting all my lighting from the T8 ZooMed fixtures with ReptiSun UVB bulbs to new T5 High Output fixtures with Arcadia UVB Bulbs from LightYour Reptiles.

The one and only goal in lighting is to create light that is as close as possible to natural sunlight as that is the main template for all life on earth. With that being said, the single T8 fixtures in my opinion do a very poor job at this. That is why I'm changing all my lighting over to Dual T5 HO fixtures with one 6% Arcadia bulb and one 6.5k Day-light bulb. You will be amazed with how much brighter and more vivid your cage will look with these fixtures, not to mention it is better for both your chameleon and live plants.

In the past the, the prices for the T5 HO fixtures were much higher than the T8 so that is why I, like most people, purchased the T8 fixtures. But now with newer technology, they are virtually the same price. As for the Arcadia bulbs, I don't believe there is a better option for UVB lighting. Some arguments can be made about prices but they are usually flawed. I would purchase my ZooMed Reptisun 5.0 UVB 18" bulbs for about $16-17 per bulb. The 22" Arcadia 6% UVB bulbs are $30 a piece. So right off the bat they seem more expensive but the Reptisun bulbs need to be replaced every 6 months where the Arcadia bulbs only need to be replaced once a year. So in reality the T5 Arcadia bulbs are actually less expensive than the T8 UVB bulbs.

Todd at LightYourReptiles.com is the man to talk to about lighting if you are considering switching or just buying lights for the first time. He has been a huge help with all my questions and is more than willing to help get you setup with some amazing lights!

Thank you Nick for the kind words and your set-up looks GREAT!
Your plants and animals will go through the roof!:D

I've been pondering for a new fixture for chiefs new cage from lightyourreptiles.com... This total confirms that I need to get it :)

The Zoo Med T5 HO fixtures plus 5.0 florescent combo pack are about $60.00 (24 inch fixture with 22" florescent) I went along and got it, the bulb wasn't doing enough. Right away it made a huge difference for both the lighting and my chams behavior.

I looked into those before as well. If you price out the bulbs with it, it actually ends up being more than sticking with the LYR dual and arcadia bulbs so I never ended up buying one. I believe they are marketed more towards fish tanks and not the reptile world so I don't see them being used too much.

Just as a side note, I believe they come with a splash shield because they are for fish tanks so be sure you remove it as that will most likely block the needed UVB.

Looks sweet man! I can't wait till we have these setups for all our guys!

The picture speaks for itself! That's is amazing!

I'm going to be following this thread and checkout the lights themselves.... I'm ready for an upgrade to my veilds cage...

Been wanting to switch to Arcadia's, but the setups I'm looking at are always out of stock. :(

I recently changed my T8 bulbs to T5s as well and i love them and definitely a lot brighter... I purchased my Arcadia bulbs from Todd at Light Your Reptiles. He is always very help and very informative...

Im from the UK and I don't live to far from the Arcadia manufacturer :p

Normally everything I want with hobbies comes from the US so at least this time I can hopefully put my 2 cents in (excuse the pun).

I have been using T5's for years with marine tanks for corals etc and also halides.

I use a 12% instead of the 6% arcadia as the mesh blocks out part of the uv and also use a 6500k for plant growth :)

I picked up some reflectors from Todd a few weeks back to upgrade a system I already had. Now that the light is directed to where I want it the cage is so much brighter and evenly lit.

Very interested in switching to these, especially since I am upgrading my boy's cage soon. But I am not going to lie, I went to the website and got super overwhelmed.
