Swollen Eye

Hey guys, I was approaching Archie today, and I'd noticed he was scratching his eye against a stick in his cage, then I saw him invert his eye (like chameleons often do) and there was a like a big bulge. When he's not inverting his eyes he looks completely normal in my opinion, any thoughts? I'll try to get pictures of him inverting his eye.

You are using exo terra vines and when they rub their eyes against them they can get pieces of the fake vine in their eye. This is a possibility of what is going on.

Chameleon Info:

• Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
• Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
• Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
• Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
• Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
• Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
• History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:

• Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
• Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
• Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
• Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
• Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
• Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
• Location - Where are you geographically located?

Their eyes can look crazy when they clean them and whatnot. It always freaked me out when I was getting started in the hobby. Hopefully it's nothing

Like the above poster said..when the chams eye are being bulge for a minute, thats beacuse its in the self cleaning process..as long goes back to normal it should be fine if thats not the case , a vet visit will be a priority on ur to do list.

Take it from someone who recently lost their chameleon . . . the very first thing I noticed was that one of my cham's eyes were swollen, and I thought it was peculiar. I am not saying your chameleon is in deep trouble yet, but definitely a vet visit. Unfortunately for my cham, she didn't survive until we could get her an appointment at the herp vet. It was about 2 days later that she passed away, after I had first noticed her eye. Moral of the story, chameleons go downhill extremely quickly, so when something is wrong without a known cause, time for the vet!
