Taking my chameleon out side??

I use some plants when I'm watching them or I use a screen cage with some plants in them. Dont ever leave him alone outside! A predator could pick him up when you aren't looking or he might run up a tree and never be seen again! Also make sure there is plenty of shade, and plenty of water when it gets hot.

I'm not sure where you live, but it's pretty hot this time of year. You have to be very careful especially with young chams not to over heat them. If outside temp is above 90 I would not take them out and that's even high. You want to place them under a tree or partial sun. They will still get their UVB but not direct hot sun. As mentioned before, plenty of water, shade and a safe enclosure.

yeah, 90 is way too high for direct sunlight.Im in los angeles, lately it has been perfect weather for my 3 month old panther to be out all day.The hi's are around 80 and low's at 58-60.I just make sure to give him some shade, dripper all day and just mist him 5 times a day for 1 minute.

if they have ample shade, lots of live lush plants, and are frequently misted, then heat should be a problem for most healthy chams, also its good to adjust your supps accordingly, chams that get significant amounts of natural sun, need little if any d3. jmo

You need a temp. gun to check the body temp of your cham....they get way hotter than the outside temps. It can be 80 in my backyard and my chams body temp can be 85 in the shade and 89 or 90 in the direct sun.

I use outside trees for my guys but I sit there and watch them every single moment.

Fun outside

Limey (6 mo old veiled) has a cage inside with a mist king (recommend highly, wonderful mister)and a cage outside with the mist queen, me. If I am staying home, Limey gets to stay outside. I check him every half hour, mist, or watch him. I put his crickets in his outside cage early so he can hunt and digest in the natural light. Inside the screen cube are 4 lovely full plants If it gets to 85, I hang a wet towel over one half or two thirds of the cage. There are trees and groundcover all around us. He's safe in his cage and watches the plethora of birds and squirrels in our yard. It's funny to see him watch an insect flying by.

I have three large hibiscus for my chams to climb on. I also just take their whole cage outside when I want them to stay out for the whole day.

mist queen = me

Limey lives in the foothills, it's warm/hot and windy outside. I moisten him and his foliage with a hand mister every half hour or hour. The outside cage is an eighteen inch screen cube, I have him on a card table I can move around outside. I watch him quite a bit, I'm fortunate to have the time.
His inside cage is a four foot tall screen cage on a three and a half foot rolling island. This has the automatic mister on a timer. I've learned so much from everyone on the forum. He's healthy because of everyone's stories and advice to eachother.
Thanks to everyone!:)
